I found most of my IBS symptoms went away when I gave up grains.

I haven't had relief, unfortunately.

Me, neither. I am constipated most of the time and it has only come on recently after being paleo for 9 months. Before that, no problem. – Diane Jun 25 at 16:13

With the paleo and vitamin d supplementation my crohn's symptoms vanished.

yes I have had IBS for 15 years and I now have no symptoms from eating a low carb, high fat paleo diet

certain foods can initiate or aggravate symptoms of IBS as evidenced by symptom occurrence after meals. Lactose (milk sugar), caffeine, fatty foods, gassy vegetables (i.e., broccoli or beans), foods containing sorbitol, wheat cereals, or alcohol may trigger symptoms. These foods should be avoided.

I have had major improvement from cutting gluten, and corn & legumes seem to be problematic for me to a lesser extent. I believe I can improve more from cutting coffee, but haven't mustered the willpower yet.

Ditto the gluten, corn and legumes for me. By giving up those things, plus dairy, (plus my life getting a bit less stressful) has meant that I'm off all my IBS meds now. Everyone is different though so it takes experimenting! – CarmenSandiego Jun 25 at 23:07

I started having pretty regular symptoms in my early 20s and it continued on until the last few years. I think part was nerves/stress (because it did subside greatly when I began taking an anti-depressant) but it totally went away when I adopted Paleo.

I have gotten definate partial releif from paleo (combined with fodmaps and scd diets). I am much less gassy, much less bloated, burp less, and no longer have diarreha.

The only thing that remains, is I still sometimes get sore in the gut - but as I understand it, the gut mucosa takes a long time to heal, and I am taking glutamine, and going to get started on some gelatin to speed that recovery along.

Hopefully, in 6 months, that occasional gut soreness will go too.

It helped for some things for me, like eliminating wheat, milk and beans. But paleo emphasizes lots of foods that may aggravate IBS and eliminates lots of foods that may be okay for people with IBS. For example, I can't eat too much of these paleo foods: cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, sprouts, asparagus, kale, pears, apples, onions, garlic, coconut, honey (not really "paleo" but it's the preferred treat sweetener over cane sugar).

I do great with non-paleo rice, corn tortillas, oats, certain cheeses and yogurts, and if I make a treat, I use cane sugar and I'm completely fine. Reading about FODMAPs and fructose malapsorbtion helped me a lot more than paleo to figure out what bothers me and how much I can handle of certain problem foods.

I've started paleo diet since 1 month for my IBS , but a recent study has demonstrated the a high fat diet ( as paleo is ) can cause a leaky gut.

So I don't know what's better !

why thumbs down?! – Carlo Jun 26 at 11:58
It's nice for folks to explain downvotes (especially for a new member here such as yourself); I'm guessing because paleo isn't necessarily high fat, or because the study probably wasn't putting its subjects on a high-fat paleo diet. Maybe you could link to the study so we could take a look at it? +1 from me because I think you bring up something worth looking into :) – Jules K Jun 27 at 11:45
