If, while doing a Whole30, you have a cheat - ie a champagne toast at a wedding, etc, should you start your Whole30 over to really get the full effects of it, or just continue on your way?

Note, this is my second Whole30.

Yea, I think allowing one slip would be fine for the sort of person who has the strength to continue without another slip up. For someone like me however, this would open a door to endless 'mistakes' and probably sabotage the whole thing. – Joy Jun 27 at 16:06
They are pretty clear on the zero cheats, because it's an elimination diet. The whole point is doing the whole 30 days. After you discover how you feel after 30 days, cheat days are up to you. – January Jun 28 at 1:52

This is a personal question. Undertaking something like Whole30 is a personal choice. Whether or not you cheat or slip up is your own decision. Nobody is judging you. There aren't any prizes awarded. It's your health. If someone truly does slip up, one time, that being the ONLY time during the program, and it being a sip of alcohol, I wouldn't worry about it. That's only for you to decide though. Some people would start over because they couldn't live with not completing things perfectly.

It's not just a matter of judgment or perfectionism; it's 30 days of basically an elimination diet. If you have something that's on the don't-eat list, you're not doing an effective elimination. Your results will be skewed. – January Jun 27 at 23:28

Is alcohol that terrible of a cheat? I try to stay pretty strict to Paleo (currently trying autoimmune protocol) and I usually end up having a glass or two of wine on the weekend.

A Whole30 is all about finding out what happens to your body when there are NO cheats. If you cheat, you won't know what improvements you could have seen. – Karen Jun 28 at 0:34
