Yes, I admit it, I cheated, but they were the best doughnuts I've ever eaten! (made with potato dough!). However, no excuse! I was very paleo for my past three weeks and I'm at a point now where I'm wondering how to recover. I upped my fish oil dosage this morning and still staying strong with lots of water. Anything else? Should I go on a vegetable cleanse or something or should I just jump right back on board with paleo?

Dear lord NO---> "Should I go on a vegetable cleanse or something?" Just proceed with eating the things that are good and avoiding the ones that aren't. Going astray with a couple of donuts does not require dietary penance or self-flagellation. Just keep on with the right things and move forward. – Amy B. Jun 28 at 15:11

Go back to eating Paleo and don't let guilt or thoughts of failure overwhelm your prior success. You made it three weeks on Paleo before and you can make it the next three weeks, too.

Also, be forewarned that eating donuts or any other sugary processed carb bomb will make you want to eat more sugary processed carb bombs in the next few hours or days. Do your best to resist the carb cravings, but if you just can't stand it and have to give in a little - try to do it with some fruit or a sweet potato.

It's fine, man. Don't even worry about it. Just put the extra calories and carbs to good use by kicking up the intensity of your next couple workouts and continue on with your normal routine.

Okay, the real question is--what's the recipe?!!

That's what I was thinking; then I went back to my self-flagellation. =) – MathGirl72 Jun 28 at 16:10

I'm so glad to read all the reasonable responses. I completely agree. If the worst thing you do is eat a presumably gluten-free doughnut every three weeks then you are in pretty darn good shape. Carry on.

It's alright to enjoy yourself once in a while. Let's no over-obsess on small things like this, and sound like a high school cheerleader. All that matters is your diet on the long-run.

Don't worry about it at all. This weekend, I went through a couple of biscuits, half a box of cereal, a can of soda, and half a tub of ice cream in a bit of a starved daze, and I'm 100% back to normal without doing anything special. Keep eating the way you normally do, keep the same exercise, and your body will take care of the rest.

Staying hydrated is good, and tea (especially ginger or peppermint) is good if you're experiencing any discomfort from it.

Just jump right back on board. One slip isn't a big deal. Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and keep going!

This is a Chris Kesser quote that I think describes it perfectly: In some cases it’s better to eat the wrong food with the right attitude than the other way around.

My sprinting coach used to say something similar - "There's no such thing as bad food." Sometimes the psychological benefit outweighs the physiological detriment. Let's all think about the absurd things we used to eat as kids - once in a while and we still turned out fine. My favorite? An entire container of Countrytime Pink Lemonade - finger to powder to mouth.

One bad day one ruin your whole month, even one bad month wont ruin your whole year. Enjoy your hedonistic treat and move on!
