I eat cheese several times a week, a dash of heavy cream about once a week and ice cream sometimes too (I know, I know, not primal... pure indulgence). I eat all these things with no apparent reaction.
However when I consume milk, about 50% of the time I do get a reaction that I believe is allergic. I only have milk about once a month, some months none at all, and try to make it organic and whole (no raw in my area). I had some last night in a sauce I made, probably consumed around 1/4 cup, and this morning my throat is slightly swollen and sore, the back of the roof of my mouth feels tender and my breathing feels laboured.
I have gluten intolerance so already some autoimmune stuff going on. My question is, should I really be conscientious about absolutely staying away, or might it be better to keep consuming small amounts to potentially get used to it or keep from getting a more severe reaction? Also, why don't I react to ice cream but milk out of a carton I do?
