What gets you going for your workouts? Coffee and some good music? Something else? A pre made or personalized pre workout drink? Thanks for your input. I'm hoping I get some ideas.

Personally I have a pre workout drink that I concocted myself, put in my ear buds, turn up the volume, and hit it.

I don't always eat pre workout, but when I do I prefer raw honey.

Yeah, I don't eat before working out either. I was wondering about ergogenic aids, not food. But thanks for answering, and honey is awesome. – foreveryoung Jun 28 at 21:26

I don't usually eat much pre-workout, but if I missed lunch or something else happened, I usually just go for a piece of fruit and some nuts. Most drinks slosh around a little too much for me, so I like having something small and fairly low-volume that still gets some calories in me.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, man. You're an oarsman right? have you experimented with creatine at all during the Spring for 2ks and sprints? – foreveryoung Jun 28 at 18:00
I do row, but I've only been really serious about training since the beginning of this year, so I still have some raw progress before I get to a place where I need to start using tweaks like that. I might look into it though... – Corbab Jun 28 at 18:34

Metal. Tons of brutal metal.

Nice. Examples? – foreveryoung Jun 29 at 0:31
Well, it depends on the day. I might start with your basic Pantera, Acid Bath, Morbid Angel, L7, then maybe spice it up with some Cradle of Filth or Tiamat. Depends on the weather. – Lyndsay Jun 29 at 0:46

Whey, beta alanine, creatine.

Post I'll do coconut water and then a proper meal maybe two hours later.

Yeah man, BA is so great. Creatine is a no-brainer, IMHO. – foreveryoung Jun 28 at 18:33

I mix it up between fasted, eating about 75 minutes prior (mostly meat and veggies with a little fat), or snacking within 30mins (fruit and nuts, maybe some honey). I also change the PWO meal depending on the activity I'm doing and the intensity (i.e., phosphagenic, oxidative, or glycolic). Mind you, I'm not scientific about it. It's more akin to "I'm running this morning, so some nuts, honey, and an apple will be fine until I finish" or "heavy lifting today...eat like I chased it down and killed it".

Pre-workout: 1/3 sweet potato, piece of fruit, lots of water. Used to do coffee but I'm off caffeine and actually have more energy now.

Post-workout: 2/3 sweet potato, some almonds, creatine dissolved in a mixture of water and a few ounces of fruit juice (coconut water, grapefruit juice). I'll have a big meal about an hr, hr and a half post workout.

My pre-workout meal is a bacon and eggs breakfast. Wait a couple of hours and hit the gym.

My post-workout meal is lunch. Usually mixed nuts, cream, and olives.

I guess these aren't really concoctions, but that's what I eat.

Your answer is fine, man- food can be an ergogenic aid too. Eggs are b vitamins and BCAAs. Question though, why just fat post workout, and not protein and/or carbs? I don't eat anything before working out, but if I don't have eggs and a japanese sweet potato sometimes within the next couple of hours, I'm like zombie for the rest of the day until I get some protein/carb combo in me. – foreveryoung Jun 28 at 20:12

BCAA w/ rice syrup shake plus cup of joe pre workout. This usually gives me a nice boost of energy for my workout.

During the workout I listen to my favorite punk bands off my iPhone and rock out doing squats, deadlifts, presses, etc.

Post Workout: A sweet potato w/ either chicken/turkey/shrimp.

Good times.

I do something very similar. Great minds. Is Pinback punk? – foreveryoung Jun 29 at 0:32

I feel like if you need to get amped up for a workout, you might want to consider a different workout. The though of swimming or mountain biking or weight lifting gets me amped up, no extra fuel or music necessary!

Sometimes I can't sleep at night, honestly, because I am so excited to work out in the morning. But I still like a little increase my performance by employing the use of some well researched performance aids like music and caffeine. – foreveryoung Jun 29 at 2:15

I've tried to keep it "paleo " & done 30g worth of carbs in potato, yam, and/or fruit in different pre workout windows(2hrs,1hr,30 mins)hey all left me feeling bloated unless it's 4 hrs before training. I'm assuming it's because of the fiber, water content & other macronurients that slows down digestion.

What works best for me is 5g BCAA 30 mins pre WO & organic gummy bears 15 Mins before training. I've used energy gels in the past but the gummy bears are cheaper with same ingredients & so much easier on my stomache. I also use BA, cit malate, & caffeine when training specific for a fight.

This is only for thaiboxing. having a kick ass training session boost confidence. My other strength & conditioning I do fasted or 5g BCAA if I feel like crap.
