So today I had some bacon and eggs and to be honest I found it difficult to finish it all.
I've noticed over the past few weeks that I'm getting sick / tired of grease and I'd rather just eat something... well less greasy. Chicken, fish, fruit, vegetables.
I don't know if I'm literally being ill or if I'm just momentarily turned off.
Anyone else experience this? Am I doing something wrong. Have I had... too much bacon!?
BTW I usually fry in butter or lard.
Me too. I used to make pork belly all the time, but now I just am not interested in it. Maybe our bodies needed it to rebuild and now we are in equilibrium our fat cravings have subsided?
Could be your appetite reconfiguring based on metabolic readjustment/healing? Like: your body is getting better at sensing and signaling fullness. Fat/grease is so calorie dense that you'd naturally find yourself needing less for maintenance if you're losing weight.
When I overeat fats or proteins, my body says bleh for a while. I believe it's tied directly to satiety.
Switch it up a little.
I've also found if I eat non wild meat grease, like cheap bacon, it's less appealing much sooner, my personal theory lies with the omega 6 balance
I just think pork isn't really all that great. It's got lots of PUFAs, and I'm starting to think that eating a whole lot of it is not a great idea. I used to eat it every two or three days, just whenever I felt like I wanted it, listening to my body, but now I eat it even less.
And on bacon in particular: I used to love everything about bacon when I first made the switch to paleo, but not as much now. When I do cook bacon I cook it til it's pretty well done, and don't eat the grease. There's something dodgy going on with the grease, my gut tells me so, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with the PUFAs, and sure, probably the n-6 ones in particular. Grease often makes me queasy these days. We overrate bacon. Call me a heretic. (Or chalk it up to personal taste.)
Fat saved my life. I won't speak ill of it. However, the more fat you eat the more wine you must drink. Alcohol slices the fat off of your taste buds. I can suck down a stick of butter, and do, if I have a wee bit of vino to cleanse my pallet. I look at it as de-glazing my mouth.
Check out Loren Cordain's youtube crossfit lecture. There is a segment on the fat content of wild game during different seasons. It could be there is a seasonal effect of fat craving. Wild animals tend to store more fat for the winter and are leaner in the spring. Just a guess.
