Hello

I have crohn's disease and I'm living the paleo lifestyle. I'm doing it since last december. I feel much better since then, my blood work better, my crp is way better, I'm symptom free.

I'm OK enough to go on RKC workouts twice a week and I can do it as everybody else does it.

I have question for those with autoimmun diseases.

Do you experience flare ups on the diet? Did you stop taking your medication, azathioprine , methotrexate? How do you feel since then? Flare ups, symptoms, blood work, crp?

I'm interested in 'long term' stories. I really would like to stop taking this kind of medication in one year, but I'm a little bit afraid. I don't want to go back there when I was one with my bathroom.

Every answer is appreciated.

Thanks,

(sorry if my english is bad, I'm not native english and I'm still learning)

Long term, might want to consider weaning of meds very slowly, if you didn't plan that all already. No need to do it all at once. – Eva Oct 29 2010 at 16:02

my wife had ulcerative colitis for almost 2 years and has been 100% cured for about 3 years after doing a strict low carb diet from the book Breaking The Viscous Cycle for about a year

100% cured is miraculous...congrats to you both :-) – PrimalStyle Oct 29 2010 at 17:23

Hi! I added some tags so that future Corhn's sufferers can find any help you garner.

I have all but cured my sister-in-law's Crohn's - she's been on an adjusted variation of paleo for a few months now and hasn't had a single flare-up or need of medication. I helped her before she found a medication that worked for her, so she had no fear of going without. It means she can't ever slip up on her diet for fear of irritation, but that's good really :) Her bloodwork shows an excellent improvement, demonstrating her renewed ability to absorb nutrients.

She is careful to avoid spices and most nightshades, but doesn't worry about avoiding sugar (she's underweight), and eats sweet potatoes and pumpkin, as well as some gentle (low-acid) fruit.

This is still short-term, but I'm looking forward to seeing any longer-term records others share since my sister-in-law could always use more encouragement!

Search "fecal transplate" (I will do a question on it soon). There is a clinic in Sydney I believe. – Ikco Oct 29 2010 at 11:47
transplant or transplate? – JJ Oct 29 2010 at 14:31
GGP, that is amazing what you've done for your SIL. – PrimalStyle Oct 29 2010 at 17:22
Definitely "fecal transplate" AKA Fecal bacteriotherapy, also known as fecal transfusion or human probiotic infusion (HPI) :P – Ikco Oct 31 2010 at 9:28
Ikco - There is no such thing as a fecal transplate. I do believe you mean fecal transplant aka "Fecal bacteriotherapy, also known as fecal transfusion or human probiotic infusion (HPI)." If not, please enlighten me/us as to what a transplate is. Great site I found about FMT thepowerofpoo.blogspot.com/p/…. – MeepsIsWellfed Apr 3 2012 at 15:47
