Hi all,

So ever since I had a panic attack and (self-diagnosis) had adrenal fatigue/IBS after it I have had weird skin conditions... rashes mainly... I've always had good clear skin and never had acne/rashes when younger despite being overweight.

It seems the stress/ill health I had during 2010 (I am approx 100lbs lighter now and feeling much better with what seems good GI health) brought out all sorts of skin conditions.. and recently I had a fair amount of stress regarding a woman who messed me about as well as uni work. The forehead acne appeared during this time I reckon 6months ago and is recently clearing up after I've made my diet much simpler (starches/veg/meat, very rarely nightshades apart from potatoes/sweet pots)

My concern is more to do with this rash around my mouth which has been consistant since 2010;

and the main reason I keep a goatee most of the time and avoiding clean-shaving.

So, does anyone know what type of rash it is and how I could possibly go about sorting it out?

Check your razor and shaving cream. A good buddy of mine had something that looks similar, and it went away when he got a new shaving cream and razor. Looks kinda like wicked bad razor burn. – foreveryoung Jul 4 at 0:54

cheers, need to get new cream anyway.. i switched razor for this shave actually... though it doesn't happen on my neck/face other than around the mouth so I'm leaning towards it possibly being perioral dermatits – Paleo_BLaZeDRas Jul 4 at 11:40

Two of my three children developed a rash from "tartar control" tooth paste. The derm. MD said its quite common and recommended we use a very simple toothpaste without all the special ingredients for whitening or tarter control etc.

The rash did go away when we switched!

What kind of toothpaste are you using?

ADDED: I just googled it and looked at pictures and it does look similar to yours?
Are you using a Tarter control or "complete" toothpaste?

Its called Perioral dermatits.

I would agree with Crowlover that it's probably something external that's irritating your skin. Could be toothpaste or could be your facewash. Sodium lauryl sulfate and other irritants in them can cause rash like that.

The pic's a bit blurry - any bumps in the rash? Thinking of folliculitis barbae.

no bumps at all in the one around my mouth.. the one on my forehead seems like acne though is slowly getting better now and as crowlover pointed out may not be acne at all, it may be Perioral dermatits – Paleo_BLaZeDRas Jul 4 at 11:39

Hey PaleoBlazeDRas - let us know how it goes when after a while of changing toothpastes.
Fingers crossed, that it will be that simple!! I kinda think it is!

haven't been to the shops.. though I am no longer using any standard toothpaste.. right now I'm just brushing with coconut oil and/or water.. and will perhaps pick up a toothpaste when I find a suitable one (or make my own, which I had been planning to do for a while anyway) the problem is I can't tell if I have the rash when I don't shave and I hate being clean-shaven so try to keep goatee/stubble :P, though the forehead "acne-like-stuff" is continuing to improve – Paleo_BLaZeDRas Jul 6 at 11:15
