If so what form did you take. I do not like liver so I will supplement. I do not know if I should take a concentrated liver extract or just a liver oil supplement. I have read blue ice clo is good but there is no iu on the vit a content. Maybe a concentrated liver oil with high vit a and the blue ice clo?
I have intermittent dandruff and moderate acne. I've tried vit A from 3 sources:
CLO: I took a full teaspoon of the Green Pastures CLO and butter oil blend every day for about a month and didn't notice much of a difference. Some of the more Ray Peat-oriented people around here, who do have a lot of success with vitamin A and acne, also avoid polyunsaturated fats as much as they can, and CLO would be a good glob of that. Also, Green Pastures tested their CLO say it's about 10k IU A, and 2k IU D per teaspoon.
Plain retinol supplement: Took about 10k-20k a day just for a hoot, also didn't notice a difference.
Liver: I hate to say it but liver is the best source for me. It's not just the vit A either, it's everything else. I eat it twice a week and I'm killing about a million birds with one stone. It's actually one of the only foods where I notice a clearly positive reaction from my body; my skin seems to stay in check and I have boundless energy the day I eat it. A co-worker once told me after I ate liver for lunch "You look like you just took really good drugs." Lamb liver is milder in taste, especially when you cut thin, cover in spices, and sear.
Can't really say any of this affects the dandruff though, it come and goes. There are a few suggestions for dandruff in other threads. Good luck with the acne, it's certainly been a hard nut to crack and I'm still figuring it out. A typical acne diet heard in these circles (n3,lower carb, lots of coconut oil, no fruit, lots of green veggies) did NOT work for me and caused me all kinds of trouble.
My dandruff/eczema went away on Paleo (+goat/sheep fermented dairy). It became lesser immediately, but it went away completely about 3 months after I started the diet. I supplement with a lot of things, but not A. The main ones to supplement are D3, Mg, K2, fish/krill oil. The rest can help, but they're not required if you're eating enough of the right things. This is what I eat: http://eugenia.queru.com/2011/10/20/how-to-make-free-healthcare-cheap/#update2 and these are my staples: http://eugenia.queru.com/2012/03/05/top-10-must-eat-paleo-foods/
I didn't have acne, so I can't comment on that. I mean, I had bits of acne on my back, and on my nose that became much better on Paleo, but I didn't have any major problem with acne.
