Recently, I've woken up with a nasty white, coated tongue, the stuff on it, is the consistency of almost cream cheese. Scraping the stuff off with my teeth, I've also noticed a bit of gum bleeding.
I'm normally VLC, with a little bit of carbs a few hours post workout, on the days that I do work out. This coating appears even on days I don't eat carbs.
I've tried to kill it off by doing coconut oil pulls with a couple of drops of oregano oil and one drop of Lugol's iodine morning and night, but, it comes back the next day anyway.
Once scraped off, my tongue looks red/pink.
I'm considering making a sugar syrup and dropping some of the scrapings off in a jar, to see if it will ferment and see if it actually is alive, which might give me a clue as to what it is, but if it does react, how would I tell bacteria apart from, say yeast?
I brush my teeth with half-baking soda/half coconut oil, so whatever this stuff is, alkalinity doesn't seem to hurt it. Perhaps I can switch to something more acidic temporarily to see if that kills it off.
Not sure of the source, the only thing I can think of is that I've recently made a batch of kombucha, and have had some, but I'm not sure that this is the source, but I've avoided it in the last few days. Also noticed a little bit of nasal congestion, so that might be related.
I've also tried to ingest a drop of oregano oil to possibly kill off whatever this stuff is, and then a couple of hours replenished flora with home made goat milk kefir, but not every day.
How do I tell if this stuff is bacterial, or a fungus, or something else?
Diet is 100% clean paleo, somedays I do bulletproof coffee, some days use green tea instead of coffee, normally consume some coconut oil each day, lots of various types of protein (beef, lamb, chicken, fish, clams, shrimp, liver, cod liver, sardines) and veggies are usually mixed greens, kale/spinach/carrots/cucumbers/cauliflower/broccoli. Carb sources are usually sweet potato, rarely, some rice. Sometimes home made kraut, some days I IF.
Sleep is usually very good, I randomize workouts, usually a heavy workout on the weekends, some days I randomly do one or two sets in the morning, randomly do CT, cold showers almost every days, rarely warm.
Basically I keep IF, CT, workouts, and food sources randomized. Don't feel any ill effects from anything, energy levels/stamina are good, performance is good, no other health effects as far as I've noticed.
Dude, its one of three things, either a yeast infection, dead skin cells or dehydration. Probably a mix of all three in this case. Get some of those tooth pick thingys with the tongue scraper and scrap that stuff off every day and drink water and it should go away on its own.
Your not going to 'kill' candida with oregano oil. You can try putting coconut oil on it after you gently scrap it off. This problem should clear up in well under a week, if not, consult a Dr.
I honestly don't think it's an infection, but likely a reaction to something you're eating or some detox. I had cfs and my tongue was always coated. As I changed many things, it became clear, but it still coats if I have tea. I would check it every time you go to the bathroom and notice what you ate in the hours before, to see if you can spot a consistent pattern.
Perhaps dehydration is an issue, not sure... same applies, note down water intake and check mirror, then you'll spot if the coating appears when you have not taken on enough water.
