I am from India and have been on paleo diet for last 6 weeks. I am 5'10" and was weighing 182 lbs. Now my scales show 169. I have been primarily avoiding rice and wheat, which is very hard as we have at least one of the above in good quantity in each serving of food. HAve got couple of questions/doubts. I do commuting to office in bicycle, and i eat tender coconuts(water and coconut) a lot as it is easily available and very cheap(5 -6 rupees). Is it treated as a paleo food? I am a Muslim and i have been fasting 30 days each year for as long as i remember. Fasting on paleo is something which i have been pondering in last couple of weeks as the fasting month starts in 2 weeks time. Will it be a problem, fasting in paleo diet? Please note we cant even have water during fasting(circa 14-15 hrs).

Good job on the wt loss! It's no problem to fast for Ramadan and you may well see more wt loss and improved overall health. If you hear the terms 'intermittent fasting', 'IF' or 'compressed feeding window, it's exactly what you're doing for Ramadan (though people would generally consume water during the fast). There are many studies that show people's health improve with intermittent fasting, and specifically Ramadan studies show either improved health or at least minimal negative changes (even in athletes). Yes coconut is consumed in large amounts by many people on a Paleo diet, and is generally encouraged to consume. |

Your question reminded me of this post by Dr. Eades: http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/intermittent-fasting/inflammation-and-intermittent-fasting/ and I thought that might be of interest to you. |
