Several times now I've had trouble falling asleep due to a weird spasm feeling, almost like tightening and relaxing at the same time, mostly in my low back. It's not achy or painful, it just feels like it wants to relax all the way and almost is about to, but kind of remains tense. It feels almost like waves.

I don't know if this makes any sense, but it's a weird feeling I've had several times lately and it prevents me from sleeping. It happened last night and I took a magnesium supplement yesterday for the first time in awhile. Now I'm wondering if the other times it happened I had taken a supplement. I know for sure when I was taking the magnesium regularly I didn't have this problem.

I could experiment with this more and possibly figure it out, but I wondered if anyone on here knows what I'm talking about or the cause.

p.s. I've been so-so with the paleo lately and pretty much end up on here with "weird" issues or questions when I've not been as clean. Then I recommit more after getting some answers, so thanks.

Try using a foam roller and see if that helps with the tension. Your muscle might just need a little bit of deep massaging. Could be as simple as that. This could more have to do with your exercise/daily activity habits than diet.

Thanks, I was thinking that after awhile this morning. Have been intermittently active (excercise pretty thoroughly, then nothing off and on)- they might just be overly sensitive/reactive from that. I think stretching would help. It's just happened several times and it feels like weird waves and I can't sleep for anything because the wave feeling keeps waking me up. Thx. – Heather Jul 5 at 18:52

I am having the same feeling you're describing. It started after a week full of tennis. I had cramps before, started taking magnesium, cramps were gone and now this. I feel like the magnesium helps, but It's kinda not-natural to take it. When I have this "wave", my calfs feel like ripping, pumped up, lot of tension with similiar feel to the one before cramp/spasm. Few times I had a feeling that it's connected with carbs intake, which for me is > 100g / day.
