I just got out of the hospital with a 2 weeks stay. My diagnosis is Ischemic Colitis. I have another procedure on Tuesday to see how badly the loss of blood to my intestines is and how badly the colon is. Also to see where the blockage is, thus, a possible stint so blood will be provided to my "GUT" again.
I know the Paleo Diet is the diet I will have to follow for the rest of my life and that's okay. Right now I do good to keep applesauce, turkey and chicken broth and sugar free popcicles in without severe pain. I can also eat some canned pears with lactose free cottage cheese. That's about it.
Should I wait until all procedures/surgeries, etc are done before I start the paleo diet. Sounds like an odd question after rereading what I wrote but I just don't know what to do and nothing is working right now. It may not work until all procedures are done and then I can begin properly.
I just needed to know if you had any thoughts of my situation.
Thank you - Susan
Thank you for answering so quickly. I feel pretty positive the Paleo will be the way for me to go when I heal but just do what I'm doing until the next test and then the possible surgery. They aren't sure why it's blocked, there are several different reasons. That's why a more extensive colonoscopy is needed to see how much blockage and why. I think my question is a little premature. I'm just trying to study and get ready for the changes I will have to make. I do appreciate both answers
I really can't give you any medical advice, but it sounds like you should continue eating easily digestible foods, until you heal. Can you handle V8 and veggie/berry smoothies? Bone broth is good. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Do you know what has caused the lack of blood flow? It could be physical and tension related. Maybe some quality bodywork would help. At least it would relieve some stress from what I am sure is a stressful situation. I am a bodyworker, and the term ischemia is used when a muscle is tight and blocking its own bloodflow. Maybe hypertonic muscles are preventing proper bloodfloe to your abdomen. I hope this helps, and I would be glad to talk about other details of your case with you privately.
