i was once hiking in europe, many years ago, and stumbled upon some mountain blueberries. without exaggeration, i can say they were the most sublime thing i've ever eaten. i had them that afternoon on a mountainside meadow, picking them laboriously as fast as i could, and that evening at a campside restaurant, folded into some impossibly thin crepes. that was it - twice in one day, and never since. in my fantasy hallowe'en, someone offers me a pint of them. |
