I still have this in my head that eggs will give u high cholestrol, i know dr. atkins said this is a load of bull, and that eggs are one of the best (most nutritional) foods one can eat, especially the yolks which is where all the essential fat is, is it ok to eat 4 boiled eggs daily, or is that excessive and bad for one's health? I'm eating free range organic and omega enriched eggs.
Dietary cholesterol has a minimal effect on blood cholesterol. Even if you were to eliminate literally all dietary cholesterol for months at a time, it would improve your blood cholesterol levels by less than 10%. One of the key tenets of Paleo is that the lipid hypothesis is false--that most diseases blamed on lipids are actually caused by hyperinsulinema and general insulin resistance.
Thus, you're better off eating 10 eggs a day than 10 pieces of bread.
Yes, please, eat your eggs-- they're delicious. I've eaten two dozen in a day on many an occasion. (Disclaimer: If you have a legitimate autoimmune disease, this may be unwise.)
I was on the same boat! I ate eggs in the morning everyday before school, six at least! Eggs are awesome. The cholesterol thing , load of Bull, it's all dietary aka it's good for You. Loaded with brotein, yes brotein. But eat your eggs in the morning, throw in a scoop of almond butter, and a piece of fruit to make it a kick ass breakfast. This is coming from an 18 year old kid. Do it!!!!!!
No its only ok to eat odd numbers of eggs. 4 is out but try 3 or 5!! (haha I kid I kid)
I totally understand where you are coming from though. When I first went paleo I was still a bit nervous about eating so many foods I thought were meant to be decadent treats. I mean.. I ate a steak once a month maybe.
But then I went through a phase were I ate nothing but eggs for a few days. It was all I wanted!! That was kinda wierd and passed as I got used to paleo (I think eggs must have some nutrient I was lacking). Point being it didnt hurt me at all. I lost weight and got healthier. Eggs are a great food source but you will know when you have been overdoing it. You may stop wanting them for a few weeks then just go back to eating them. I think your body is smarter than you know!
Anyway, Eat 4 eggs a day until your body tells you to eat something else. Its all good=)
No matter what the Paleo fanatics say around here, excessive egg consumption is just not normal. Our ancestors would be LUCKY if they'd find 1-2 eggs per week, per person (it's not possible to find so many eggs per day, for the whole tribe, in their immediate vicinity). This is why I don't advocate more than 1-2 eggs per day, and possibly not every day either. It's not about their nutrient or anti-nutrient profile, it's about the fact that we didn't evolve eating so many eggs, so often. Not to mention that wild birds usually lay eggs mostly in Spring, and not year-round.
It might be okay if they fit into your total cals/macros alright. They are very nutrient dense. The concern I would have is not if they are healthy, but might I develop a sensitivity/reaction to them? Eggs are allergenic and problematic for many people, so just be aware.
I can't eat eggs except for every once in a while b/c I'm sensitive to them (probably after eating them every day for 2 years straight). If I could eat them all the time, I probably would just because they're so quick and easy to prepare.
I heard one way to mitigate the potential for an allergy is to rotate the ways in which you prepare them. For example, do scrambled one day, boiled the next, then poached, etc.
Hope that sends you in the right direction.
