I've been following the a low carb whole foods template for over a year now but have always eaten too much nuts. I also eat a lot of pork and ate stir fried foods. I'm now diligently reducing LA/O-6 from my diet while taking fish oil and eating grassfed beef/lamb. I understand it takes a long time to change my ratio especially as I used to be very obese. But can anyone who has experience eliminating seed oils/balancing their omega ratio tell me how long it took before noticeable results (i.e. slimming down) took place?

Changing your ratios can take up to a year or two to make many of the cellular changes in the body. Some of what will happen might even go unnoticed, such as more pliable cells, improved brain function, or even lack of brain deteriation, etc. You will also have reduced inflammation, but those things might go unnoticed also if you are overweight. Now if your purpose is to slim down, the inflammation from an increase in Omega-6 oils is not going to cause that much to happem, as it is more a low level chronic inflammation. Your health will greatly improve, but also your health will slow its rate of deteriation, and that is much harder to notice or measure. It is hard to say "my joints aren't wearing out as fast", but you will notice change

I agree with the above. Changing your O3/O6 ratio will not, in its self, result in slimming down. – Caveman Kyle Aug 8 at 15:27
2 years is always the figure I've heard as well. It's a long road whose results you won't see until you're older, when everyone else has tons of arthritis and you have only a little bit. But when you're 80, you'll thank yourself for what you did now. – IfYouSaySo Aug 8 at 22:19

The people promoting Omega 3/6 ratio have been unable to produce any studies proving there's any benefit to concentrating on the ratio itself. Ratio doesn't help much if at all if your Omega 6 intake is through the roof.

I'd concentrate on more important factors than a single micronutrient, such as overall calorie intake, proper rest and exercise. Those are much more potent in slimming down than fish oil caps.
