I do not understand why I'm having acne issues right now. My face gets oily all throughout the day, and my acne hurts at night. I'm a 14 year old teen boy. My Every day, I eat a breakfast of some eggs w/ veggies or a meat salad. I have a good balance of O6 - O3 of about 3:2. I usually pile on the butter to stay satiated for longer throughout the day. At school, I eat some veggies sometimes and always skip lunch, even if I'm hungry. I love the convenience of fasting. At about 4 pm, I eat some meat. Here's where the problem might be. I eat lots of fruit after my meal. I don't know how to explain how much fruit I eat, so I'll just give an example of one day's worth of the sweet stuff. 1 orange, 1 apricot, few handfuls of blackberries/blueberries/strawberries, and maybe one more fruit. I never eat bannannas. Thank you for spending the time to help me. :)
1st, I'm no doctor or dietician. But, you may be fighting a few challenges. I've had some experience with acne and diet impact.
1) Teen hormone fluctuations. Your body is changing and experiencing extreme swings in hormone balances in the teen years. That could contribute to breakouts. It's important to recognize the kind of breakouts you're having and identify the severity when seeking a remedy. Cystic acne is quite different from pimples, both in severity and cause.
2) Fruit has sugar, sugar feeds bacterial infections, bacteria grows in acne. Lower glycemic impact diets will limit some kinds of acne. You can always just experiment by dropping fruit for a month.
3) Butter is considered paleo by many. However, I'm 41 and eating butter increases my acne flare ups. If I want to avoid acne, I have to avoid dairy and specifically butter.
4) Fats may be good for your heart, but fat or oils also feed acne. Lowering your fat intake can help with acne. Eating more than a few hundred grams of butter a day can contribute to acne in some people.
5) Vitamin intake has an impact on acne and skin health. The skin benefits from Vitamins, specifically D, E, and A. And, you may be surprised by how little some of these vitamins are present in your fruit. You're only talking about a few pieces of fruit, not enough to substantially supply anti-acne vitamins, but definitely enough sugar to create a spike in insulin and glucose in your blood if you're a bit insulin resistent.
6) Some people have cystic acne disease, and medical care may be required to get you through this period in your life.
My best experience with clear skin and an overall comfort was during periods where I ate very little carb, reasonably small amounts of fat (like some whole eggs, not necessarily ever day, very little butter or oil). Fat is good. But, you don't really need a whole lot.i
I'd encourage you to keep a journal for a month. Write down everything eat, very detailed. You may find things that others can point out as aggravators.
Research cold exposure therapy also. This worked for me.
A food intolerance test and diet solved my sever shoulder cystic acne in less than 1 month. I had 24 of them, but gluten, lactose and yeast seemed to be the major culprits for me.Since I have removed those intolerances form my diet, 90% of me acne is gone, I have a lot more energy, and I am almost not depressed anymore. Look for an IgG or Leap MRT test, those are expensive, but worth it IMHO.

I had hormonal acne for years and tried EVERYTHING under the sun, heres what's ultimately worked for me:
A low sugar diet - your acne could be caused by Candida (did you take a lot of antibiotics as a child?) - fructose and sugar feed the candida like crazy. Drop the fruit or at least stick to low sugar fruits in small quantities (half a cup is a serving) if you MUST have some (berries)
Most likely, your acne is caused by hormones - thusly its very important that you give up dairy at all costs (switch the butter for coconut oil). Consuming coconut oil will also help heal your gut - this is a positive because you most likely have digestive issues (acne is caused by digestive problems).. Also a low sugar/carb diet also helped me because it kept my blood sugar levels stable, this helps stress level and adrenal function (give up all grains)... Since you're growing and very active, dont worry about the carbs in veggies, just stay away from sugar and processed grains at all costs
Considering your adrenals control your hormones, its VERY important for you to keep them healthy - this means LOTS of sleep (considering your teenager you should get 9 hours plus - if you have trouble take some natural calm beforehand).. Also try and cool it on the fasting to see if that helps your acne, I know its convenient, but it could be stressing your adrenals..
In regards to moisturizers, try some aloe! it is antibacterial, and gives your skin some moisture without being heavy.. you could also be over producing sebum because of dry skin. But only try this after changing your diet doesn't work..
Also Don't Pick! it spreads and only leaves scars! Instead of picking, try this spot treatment
I know that the paleo community generally goes for the 'no poo' approach, but from my experience when you have horrid acne, you can be desperate! And this is a much better alternative to picking! It's a lil pricey, but honestly it's the best thing I've ever tried - and I've tried things that were far more expensive.
On the plus side it is formulated without: - Sulfates - Synthetic Fragrances - Synthetic Dyes - Petrochemicals - Phthalates - GMOs - Triclosan
Supplements are also important!!
Try to keep it simple since you're young and active: take a multi that has your full daily requirements for zinc (critical for skin health). But more important is getting in an OMEGA-3 supplement to reduce inflammation - get one with a far higher amount of EPA to DHA... the EPA component is the anti inflammatory, so the higher the better. At all costs stay away from Omega 6's and don't get an omega multi because it usually contains omega 6!
Ultimately diet is whats most critical.. you should see results within 2 weeks if you follow this strictly, and be amazed with your results in a month!! But ultimately it will be a slow process, as your skin is your largest organ, and the most slow to heal...
My face is oilier at different times of the year. I blot it with paper or tissue and it helps. At 14, your hormones are also going crazy, which adds to the problem. Do you use soaps on your face? This can exacerbate the issue, as well.

I posted something on here a few weeks ago about having terrible acne...I had/am recovering(!!) from extremely painful cystic acne all over my shoulders and back, as well as break outs on my chest and face. I went to the dermatologist, applied prescribed ointments and creams etc. etc., even took some oral stuff that really did more damage then any good at all.
I found cutting dairy and grains from my diet COMPLETELY, and increasing my intake of healthy fats and lowering my carb. intake to below 50 g a day...has stopped my acne dead in it's tracks. I also use a natural sea salt scrub on my face and back and chest in the shower, then moisturize with organic virgin coconut oil before I go to bed.
I also take cod liver oil, beta carotene, vitamin d, calcium magnesium, zinc, and pantothenic acid every day. Since I've added the cod liver oil and beta carotene (which was around the same time I turned totally 100% paleo) I've seen immense improvements in my skin and overall well being.
I would restrain fruit intakes to the lowest of them containing fructose [ie pears apples etc] and some times get a bit of berries for good vitamin C.
I would avoid meat like pork [in pâté say] [what is called "charcuterie"] and try something like duck lamb etc.
I believe your ration omega6/3 is the inverse, otherwise you are doing it wrong; and I hope it is via some good sources like oily fishes or oleaginous.
go easy with the butter [especially with hydrogenated fat; that's directly for acne, more for general health]; we can replace it with a portion of mackerel/sardine/ plus one egg and keep one/2 slice of bread with delicious butter.
you can add some veggies on dinner, at least you will be hydrated thru the night [but not your epidermis though]
now for acne ttt: of course there is roaccutane, but you should favour natural remedies at first
so, you can take Arctium lappa, Viola tricolor, Lamium album in mother tinctures or decoctions each for 3 or 4 weeks and see how it goes [and possibly, do two cycles]. You do get break-outs with any of the mildest remedies, it's a small time to go thru, accept it.
There is also brewer yeast which make your hair and skin dryer [like roaccutane at 2*800mg a day for me]
beta carotene, vitamin d, calcium magnesium, zinc, and pantothenic acid did nothing at all for me.
some people talk about vitamin A around 10 000 IU but be careful and do not overdo it like a fucktard on acne.org who took 300 000 IU a day for months; it's reckless for your liver.
I did not try oil fish but i bought haliver fish and will try it someday.
Now for skin care: use a soap with a ph around 7, typically aleppo soap with 80% of laurel [if you've got less, meaning if there is lots of olive in it, you've got scammed] and hydrate the fuck out of your skin at night with a non-oily cream. A point on those creams; to hydrate your skin means to but something on your epidermis to keep the water in it from getting evaporated [because the water level in your dermis [gotten from your veggies, say] is disconnected from the water level in your epidermis; so drinking loads of water does not help much for epidermis]; personally I use e45 cream, not the lotion because it has got paraben it. Try raw natural shea butter also if you prefer. Another point to remember, your skin regenerates over a period of about 25 days, so do not toss away a ttt after a weak and whine about it.
now for the zits; it is actually okay to open them [after all, your dermato does this all the time] but in a gentle way and not like the 15yo fucktard pressing and pressing on them. SO the tutorial is:get an disposable epidermal needle [typically on amazon or other places on the net like 100 for 10 quids], clean your skin with a cotton pad or something and introduce gently the tip of the needle in the white area. the trick is to make an open path to avoid pressing the spot as mush as possible; once done, you squeeze gently the sebum out of the spot till a little drop of blood comes out of it;mind you, the bloodier, the uglier the spot will be. after that you take your regular shower or if it is after, apply some astringent agents like: cigarette paper [not great but okay], like alum stone, like aftershave with witch hazel [say thayers ] but avoid achohol because it will irritate even more, so more blood....
and do some work out/running; it improves insulin resistance, and when you sweat you open your pores [but shower after that because the acid irritates].
plus don't be like the average teenager staying up late browsing the net; sleep is important even for skin care.
if nothing works at all after a year, get accutane; but you will be put on antibiotics first [which basically do nothing besides wasting your time] or get isotretinoin thru a topical cream.
I hope also you've got a good BF and a good snack at noon because it seems a bit extreme to skip meals like that; even if you crave starving, you can introduce some almonds/hazel nuts/pecans in a small quantity to keep you going.

also, if you really want to use soaps containing aha's bha's or some acid; you should go easy on them and definitely do not use them daily.
AND STAY THE FuuCK AWAY FROM THE SUN; it thickens the skin and slows the wound healing. so in summer, sun block to be applied every 2 hours and after swimming/shower.
