Does anyone else use a Garmin Forerunner with Firstbeat heartrate Technology to measure calorie expenditure?

Or any other HRM to measure their workouts? If so what kind of numbers are you showing for HIIT training, Crossfit, etc?

I have a 305. I sent into a firstbeat place in DC, and they told me the 305 wasn't capable of "sophisticated calorie configuration"

I used to use my garmin heart rate monitor a lot -- I used to do a lot of cardio -- to ensure my tempo runs were above 85% Max and my long runs were below 70% Max. I could typically get above 95% Max on sprints or in races.

Just curious what kind of calorie expenditure it showed. – RaiseFitness Jul 16 at 0:37
My point was it doesn't show a difference because the Forerunner 305 is not sophisticated enough to tune calories to effort. It's based solely on distance. See below: Calories by Distance and Duration postimage.org/image/o9w5f5vq9 As you can see the calories and distance are almost a perfect match (r2 = .98). Calories by Intensity and Max Heart Rate postimage.org/image/imzshot7l While more of the Track workouts (or HIIT) are on the upper level of max heart rate, there is no correlation to calorie burn. This is based on 305's calculation, not actual calories – CD Jul 16 at 13:56
