Hi,

I have controlled acne thanks to a successful paleo diet. My acne worsens with sugar and diary so what probiotics can i make in small doses to me to more convenient for my self?

do you have feed water kefir organic cane sugar like suggested as i am worried the left over sugar from the sugar cane will cause my acne to flare up again?

any suggestions as i rather take food form probiotics and not supplements as i don't believe they are all that necessary.

thanks again.

There shouldn't be much sugar left after fermentation, but you could do a short, controlled test to see how your body reacts. I'm a fan of fermented veggies like raw sauerkraut. Have you tried those for probiotics, instead?

+1 for sauerkraut. Also fermented ginger carrots are tasty and awesome as a little side serving with larger meals. – A at Grain Free Diet Jul 14 at 17:00

you can make your own. Just buy coconut water and Kefir starter. There are tons of videos on youtube that show you step by step. – monaLisa Jul 14 at 14:40
You can make it with water kefir grains. culturesforhealth.com/coconut-water-kefir-recipe I second the cultured veggies or raw sauerkraut. So easy to make. – wickedween Jul 14 at 14:41

You can make kefir with coconut milk using dairy kefir grains. If you google around you will find more info. In my opinion kefir is the easiest ferment to make.

I thought that milk kefir grains needed certain nutrients (ie. lactose) which isn't present in coconut milk? I've been advised that it has to be a mammalian milk to ferment with milk kefir grains. – Efaitch Jul 14 at 19:53
There are separate water kefir grains that eat regular table sugar, and dairy kefir grains that require lactose. You can use dairy grains in coconut milk or water, as long as you periodically refresh them in dairy milk. Water kefir grains do better in coconut, but both will work. – January Jul 15 at 0:21
yep, what teaelf said. – Hannah Jul 16 at 0:59
Milk kefir will ferment coconut milk, and then you can return the grains to dairy milk. I've heard you only need to return the grains to dairy every few batches, but I always return them after only one batch. Coconut milk ferments much quicker than dairy milk, so beware. 8 hours is more than enough time, even in my cool kitchen. – Janknitz Oct 28 at 1:19

Kefir grains of all kinds including water kefir feeds on sugar. So that's something you won't be able to get around. But, as the others said it will eat up almost all of that sugar.
