Okay this might seem like a silly question, but I'm wondering if there are many examples of eating specific organ meats being good for that specific organ in your body. For example:

Liver: Liver appears to be one of, if not the richest source of choline. Choline is quite important to liver health and, according to Chris Masterjohn, it's deficiency is a huge driver of fatty liver disease.

Heart: Heart is just about the richest source of CoQ10. CoQ10 is really beneficial in preventing heart disease and heart failure.

Eyes: Okay, eyes aren't exactly a common thing to eat. I've only ever had fish eyes to see how they tasted. But eating eyes will give you some omega-3's. Omega-3's may be beneficial to eye health.

Joints: Joints, which can made into bone broth/gelatin, may be good for joint health.

It makes sense in theory, that organs would contain nutrients they need for proper functioning. Anyone know of some other examples?

You can extend your thoughts to bone broth to cartilage and joint health. – JayJay Jul 16 at 23:15
Never really thought of this before, but I guess it makes sense equivalent organs from animals would be made of the same things as ours. – Gerg Jul 17 at 0:09
Thanks JayJay, I just added that one. – Mscott Jul 17 at 18:52

It is a Chinese belief that whatever part of the animal you eat will be good for your corresponding organ.

In the restaurant I worked at, the guy with the bad eye would always fight to get the fish eyes at dinner and one time I saw the chef with a styrofoam package filled with nothing else but about 100 little duck tongues (I had to ask him what it was).

I personally tend to think a little more holistically. Everything in your body is connected. Organs are nutritious foods and the nutrition goes to where it is most needed at the time.

Organs also do not just contain one nutrient, buts lots of different micro and macro nutrients.

When I think I need something specifically for just one part of my body, that is when I supplement.
