anyone had success with a low-fat kitavan type diet which is starch heavy?

i really do not feel my best when im eating heavy on starches but i need to control my skins oil production for hairloss and acne.

when i tried raw foodism(basically a bunch of fruit) i developed deep cysts, but htey may have been a result of me giving up face washing at that same time

Have you tried increasing fat-soluble vitamin and zinc intake? I find that my skin is more oily when I eat higher carb, and I need more vitamin A/D and zinc to prevent acne. – Phoenix Jul 18 at 0:22

In my experience, high carb does not = less skin oil. If anything, the reverse. I did 80:10:10 also if that's what you are talking about. Made me fly high for 2 months. The after effects were awful, including middle aged adult acne. – Karen Jul 18 at 0:51

I find the thing that has cured my acne has been a diet centered around beef, fish, veg, and sweet potatoes. Now when I eat high n-6foods (chicken, most nuts), my acne comes back in force. Moderate carbs, and really focuson minimizing PUFA while maintaining a healthy ratio. Good luck.

Are you eating dairy? When I eat pasteurized dairy I notice a dramatic uptick in my skin's oil production. Acne also increases dramatically.

I can't remember if I had the same reaction with raw dairy, but it was very obvious with store bought dairy.. even organic/hormone free/whatever.

If you are, it might be worth it to try cutting it out and seeing if there is an improvement.

But, to answer your question, no I haven't tried a Kitavan style diet. After many tries and fails, I've finally come to accept that starches and I are not friends. (If you're curious about that, I talked about it here. I had the same reaction to potatoes as well.)

But if you digest starches well, I don't see why it would hurt to try it out.

acne is a skin issue arising from excessive inflammation due to imbalanced omega 3:6. carbs/sugar tends to exacerbate an already disrupted ratio, making it seem like its mainly the carbs. but after i started carefully focusing on balancing my omega ratio by eating more beef/lamb, seafood and tubers, and eating less veg oil/chicken/pork/nuts, my acne immediately began to clear up over the course of 1-2 months.

I heard that pepitas (pumkin seeds) are really good for your skin because they have a high amount of Manganese (or magnesium, they have both) and your skin really needs that in larger quantities than we get in our multivitamins. Mine improved on the paleo lifestyle pretty quickly. I have also heard that fish oil helps a lot and I am taking that also.
