It gives you that pot belly/beer belly look. I kind of have that problem. You could look slender but when i stop forcing my abdominal in, it looks like i'm 5 months pregnant.:( Still working on it. Overeating is the main cause. Fasting helps reduce it. As well as no snacking at all and eating only two or three medium sized meals a day.
If you are asking whether saturated fat leads to increased visceral fat, the answer is not directly. I wanted to say "No" but not directly is more accurate. Visceral fat is mostly caused by insulin resistence, where visceral fat is generally the last area to become resistant, thus, more fat gets stored there than other areas. On a SAD diet, if you are eating high carb, high saturated fat, and are insulin resistant, you will gain lots of visceral fat. Under those circumstances, the high insulin response is the cause, but the added saturated fat in the diet will only exacerbate the amount of calories taken in, and in turn, stored. Under a healthy paleo diet where one is not eating a calorie surplus, and the insulin sensitivities have improved, saturated fat is perfectly healthy.
