I can hear it now... "But since I started Paleo, I never get sick!"

Well let's pretend you have!

I used to eat one of two things when sick: white rice with soy sauce and raw garlic or toast with cinnamon sugar on it. Mmmm... miss that.

Now I don't know what to eat. Sugar free jello?

Stomach sick? Don't eat anything. – Bill1102inf Jul 23 at 23:21
Nope, just run of the mill fever, aches/pains, nasal issues, cough. – Kelleil Jul 23 at 23:29

Broth. It's usually easy to get down, plus it has the added benefit of having lots of nutrients that will help your body heal.

what if you don't have any made and fever etc, buy the canned stuff? – Kelleil Jul 23 at 23:29

Usually I have a stash in the fridge, but if I'm that desperate, I'll throw bones in the crock pot and let it do it's thing while I veg on the couch :) The canned stuff doesn't really have all the good things you need. – A at Grain Free Diet Jul 23 at 23:40
in a pinch you could ask a friend to pick up from a local deli (assuming you don't get the gluten death that I would from the noodle bits) – Moonablaze Jul 24 at 3:59

H-marts have freshly made bone broth. If you have H-mart in your area, definitely check it out! – coffeesnob Jul 24 at 7:53

If it's a throat issue, chamomile tea with lemon and honey. The only time I have honey. Maybe I'll crock pot a chicken with a couple veggies.

I eat a low sugar jello that I make with coconut water & some honey.

Unfortunately anything coconut is a no go for me. So try to hack some gelatin? But if I'm sick, ugh, effort. Thx! – Kelleil Jul 23 at 23:28

You can make it with fruit juice instead. – Dragonfly Jul 24 at 1:13

Bone Broth, add some zucchini noodles if you need carbs

Hadn't thought about that. But my bf won't be able to manage that. Thanks! – Kelleil Jul 23 at 23:52

if you don't have bone broth in your freezer (and really who doesn't have that?). Then a organic, no salt added, stock is good. Go for chicken, even "organic" beef broth often as MSG. Sometimes a good asian store will have dehydrated Pho base which can be used too. For teh zucchini noodles, get the boy to use this -- amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Julienne-Peeler/dp/… so easy a caveman could do it -- wait that's a good paleo diet tag line.... – CD Jul 23 at 23:55
Oooh. That peeler! – Kelleil Jul 24 at 2:55

If it is tummy/diarrhea, then pumpkin. Out of the can is fine. This is a dog remedy that works as well on people. Aspirin is not bad either.

No diarrhea. Have I lived in a cave? Never heard of the pumpkin thing. – Kelleil Jul 24 at 2:57
it also keeps my friend's cat from having hairballs! – Moonablaze Jul 24 at 4:01

If I have a head/chest cold, I will down pho (minus rice noodles) like crazy. The spicier the better. I can't say if it eases my cold symptoms any faster, but it's such a comfort food for me that I feel better anyway.

Hot toddies work wonders for me as well, especially when I need something to help me sleep (cold pills and the like tend to make me anxious instead of drowsy).

You can get pho without noodles?? – Kelleil Jul 23 at 23:52
Ask for extra mung beans, I've never seen a place say no. Be careful and only go to a good place. A lot of these places use MSG, and that can make a bad situation worse!!! – CD Jul 23 at 23:56
Even better to make your own. This is the recipe I use. latestinpaleo.com/blog/2011/3/22/… – Jaych Jul 24 at 2:00
But I'm sick! Effort! Bookmarking that anyway. – Kelleil Jul 24 at 2:56

But since I started Paleo, I never get sick! (True, I have not even had a cold in over 2 years.) Swap out your soy sauce for tamari. Swap out the toast for soft boiled eggs.

Egg Allergy. :( – Kelleil Jul 23 at 23:53
Coconut aminos work well in place of soy sauce, too! – MathGirl72 Jul 23 at 23:53
Coconut allergy. Seriously, I'm a mess. – Kelleil Jul 24 at 2:57

If I have a head cold I have a big spoonful of horseradish, if that doesn't clear my sinuses nothing will. Hot peppers too.

Wasabi? That's my jam. – Kelleil Jul 24 at 2:58

Vegetable soup - any kind. Broiled fish if I can handle it Poached eggs

Broth, tea, raw eggs (or poached), boiled ginger root, homemade kombucha. Sometimes nothing at all -- fasting for a day or two depending on what exactly I'm suffering from often helps.

But yeah, actually, I almost never get sick any more. Just allergic reactions to Massquito bites these days. And nothing has cured my chronic depression.

I heat chicken broth with some coconut milk, garlic and ginger, and curry or sriracha if I feel like my stomach can handle the spiciness. I also add some cut up cooked sweet potato and crack an egg or two in there and let it all simmer for a while.

nothing.

I try to fast.
