One week ago today my vision went spotty while I was standing in line at the movie theater (this is the best image I could find to represent what I'm seeing: http://i.imgur.com/UC0T5.jpg.. just replace the black with white.) It's happened three times over the past week, usually in the afternoons. Lasts about 30 min.
I've been paleo + dairy since June 2011. Supplement 10g BCAA pre-workout + 5000 UI Vit D + 600mg Magnesium + 500mg Glutamine + 1000mg Salmon Oil + 520mg Panax Ginseng everyday. My job requires me to be on the computer about seven hours a day and I recently just went from <50g carbs daily to an unlimited about.. probably between 200g - 250g.
The ginseng supplement is fairly new to me, could that be it?
It may not have anything at all to do with your diet or supplements.
I could be any of a number of things and it could be serious. Vision issues are not to be minimized. We are talking about your brain here so please see a doctor ASAP. Im a bit surprised nobody else has said this!?
I have a friend who worked for an opthamologist. He talked often about patients coming in describing similar symptoms, and they had detached retinas. That's an extremely serious medical condition that if not treated can result in blindness. The message is: don't f**k with your eyes--see a doctor, NOW. Hopefully it's absolutely nothing serious, or it's something like migraines. But do you really want to risk finding out it's something else, but too late?
I get rather fractal, splotchy vision in one of my eyes sometimes. I have been told it is due to dehydration. It seems to go away if I drink some water and close my eyes. But, these will always predict a headache for me. :(
Could be start of diabetic retinopathy, or related. Especially since you just recently increased carb load. It would be worth it to buy a $25 BG Meter and test your blood sugar at the onset of one of these afternoon episodes.
I've had several ocular migraines and that pattern looks a lot like them. I get the normal kind as well, but oddly enough the ocular ones didn't come with the usual headache and nausea. They lasted like 30 to 40 minutes and they kind of expand until they are out of your field of vision. It really sounds like that's what it is. I know quite a few people who have had them.
