I've been paleo for 9 months and it has been great. I lost nearly 40 pounds (I'm 5'7" and 148 lbs; used to be 185 lbs.), and I have had a number of other symptoms disappear (heartburn, insomnia, moodiness, etc.) I started out with what I think most people would think of as a "standard" paleo diet: a variety of muscle meats, some eggs, lots of veggies, some fruit, and some nuts.
Of course, I think we all do some tweaking as we learn to read our bodies better, so after getting the hang of eating paleo. I found myself not buying or eating things that I just didn't feel like eating.
The first example is fruit. I just don't really like fruit. So I never buy it or go out of my way to eat it. Next I got rid of nuts, which are so easy to binge on, and then they would make me feel sick. So I never really buy nuts anymore and I don't miss them at all.
Finally, veggies - I haven't eliminated veggies by any means, but I eat them much, much less than I used. I enjoy vegetables. It's just that I enjoy eating meat and eggs so much more, that I find myself saying "why bother" on many days, and I just eat eggs and meat. Basically, vegetables have started to become more something I add to my meal for variety or enjoyment. Veggies just don't give me the amazingly nourished feeling that I get after eating steak and eggs, and I'm surprised to find myself at the point where I feel they are unnecessary. At this point my diet consists of about 85-90% meat and eggs(and occasional liver), with the remaining 10-15% being vegetables. And some days it is more like 100% meat and eggs. When I exercise, I do find some extra carbs very helpful, so then I drink coconut water, but I don't do very much intense exercise; mostly walking.
I like eating this way, and it feels good, but I think even 6 months ago I wouldn't have imagined myself getting to the point of a virtual carnivore. Has anyone else had a similar experience - where you are finding yourself eating "what feels right", and are tending towards nearly all animal products?
Also, what might I be missing in my diet if I only ate pastured eggs, uncured bacon, grass-fed beef (muscle and liver), and a fish oil supplement?
