I'm 5'4 138 lbs and have recently converted to the paleo diet. I love fruit and so generally eveyday I eat a couple servings of it such as an apple and about 15 cherries. Will eating this amount of fruit prevent me from losing weight while eating paleo. I don't eat dairy and usually eat between 1200-1500 calories a day.

Stick to more fibrous fruit with lower fructose levels... a.k.a. berries.

Depends on your specific physiology. For some yes, for others no. Give it a shot and see if it works for you.

Yeah these questions just cannot be answered by anyone other than the body of the person asking the question. Yet we still insist on having people tell us what we're doing is o.k. As if that will make it so. – Shari Bambino Aug 1 at 4:30

Totally agree - experiment on yourself because everyone reacts to everything differently. KNOW THYSELF - I was afraid of fruit for like 2 years, now I eat about 4 servings a day and maintaining my weight nicely. – Grottenolm Aug 1 at 5:21

Even though fruits in general are a great source of nutrients, they are high in carbs. If your goal is losing weight, i would recommend eating fruits with a lower glycemic impact, such as; Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries and such.

I eat more fruit than that usually and still lose weight. And if your calories only range from 1200-1500 you should be fine. I wouldn't worry about it and enjoy eating healthy, whole foods, fruit included.

Same here -- I usually eat about 3 servings of fruit a day, and lost all the weight I wanted. I do keep my carbs below 30%, but I also generally eat far more calories than that. – Robin Aug 1 at 2:33
Me too, I'm usually closer to 1800-2000 calories with some higher and lower days in there. At first I worried a lot about how much fruit I ate but don't worry about it so much now. My carbs are still way lower than on SAD and I rarely go over 100 carbs a day. Maybe I would be losing faster if I dropped the fruit but it makes me happy, and I like being happy :) – sabretoothandclaw Aug 1 at 14:52

It depends on how much you eat. Moderate amounts are just fine.

We eat our fruit using home made kefir, 2tbs chia seeds and cinnamon (sweetened with stevia) as a dip. It works great for strawberries, apples, peaches or whatever...and it's very filling.

My n=1 -- I usually eat two servings of fruit/day, often an apple or a stone fruit (plum, peach), sometimes a banana (mixed with eggs and coconut flour in a sort of pancake), and (until I became pregnant) steadily lost weight until I hit what I felt was a healthy baseline weight (I'm your height, started at 140 and leveled out at 115).

If you are working on weight loss then less fruit is better. You will still lose weight eating some fruit but it's generally recommended to go easy on the fruit until you reach a baseline. Then once you reach it add in a little fruit and see how it goes. If eating 1-2 servings of fruit helps you stay on track with your eating habits then stick to berries. I usually keep my fruit servings between 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup, but I'm a pretty big guy and I dont eat fruit everyday. I've had the opportunity to test out my weight loss while including and not including fruit in my diet. I can tell you nothing makes me shed pounds faster than just eating wild meat and green veggies cooked in healthy fats 4 times a day. I also find I crave less sweets when I stay away from fruit during weight loss.

If you are trying to get lean/fit, then "yes." If you are trying to get shredded, then "no."

...unless it's 1/4C unsweetened applesauce mixed with creatine pre/post workout :).

I eat berries every other day, usually a cup or two. I have lost 90lbs in 8 months

Yes, you can still lose weight and eat fruit.

Will you lose more weight than if you replaced the fruit with a protein or fat source of calories? Nope.

I think to lose weight quicker you should limit fruits for a while, especially bananas!

I love bananas but they had halted my weight loss because they would be my snack meal. Now my snack is a carrot, protein or no fat cottage cheese (my only milk product allowed sparingly). I'm seeing results on day 2 already.

I'd go with berries as safe fruits but that's after I lose the weight I need. No more bananas for me, perhaps they don't react well with my body, I am of European descent, doubt we had bananas here in the stone age!
