Okay so I've noticed every time I eat meat, my tongue is a white-ish grey, no matter how many times I brush it, it stays like that for at least two days. In contrast, on days where I just eat vegetables, avocados, berries, and starchy veggies like sweet potato etc, my tongue is usually a very healthy BRIGHT pink :/ Now I've heard your tongue is a clue/reflection to what's going on INSIDE your body, and usually a bright pink tongue mean your insides are thriving! Obviously I want my insides to thrive, so if meat is stopping this from happening is reducing or cutting out meat as a Paleo feasible or healthy? I don't eat nuts or dairy either so it would be kind of hard to get my calories up but I'm sure I could do it, but what do you all think? I know people sometimes associate eating meat with ketosis, which I've heard can cause a white tongue, but I always eat other starches with my meat, and starches stop ketosis... so that couldn't be it right? I'm starting to think my body is just not thriving on meat anymore? I ate a lot of meat when I first started Paleo and maybe my body is just rejecting it now? It's weird b/c I'd always heard a white tongue was associated with sugar, so I don't understand why this only happens when I eat protein! when my tongue is bright pink and healthy I DEFINITELY feel much healthier overall, so I know there's a correlation. So as a Paleo if meat is stopping this from happening is it okay to cut out all meat, or only have it every once in a LONG while (I like having a pink tongue haha)? What do you all think?
Intesting. Are you sure you're drinking enough water/aren't dehydrated? That oculd be the culprit, and hopefully it is.
As to your question "is it okay to cut out all meat only have it once in a while?"
My own opininion is yes, it is. I'm something of what you might call a closet pescatarian, in that when I buy food for my place, it's just a very wide array of seafood, Greek yogurt, and some cheeses (along with fruit and veggies, obviously). I end up eating meat (chicken, pork, lamb, beef, etc) when I go out with others, but not typically at my place. I am doing just fine. Now I write that because some people do not consider meat to be fish, but if you consider seafood meat as well, and you're saying you don't eat that, then I guess that you would end up vegan unless you consume dairty products.
So, what I'm trying to say is you don't need to eat land animals to have a healthy diet, but if you're not doing that, it would be wise to include at least seafood, and some dairy too if you tolerate it. I get bi-annual labs and am happy and healthy.
Try drinking more water and seeing if that does anything.
I'm just going to throw this out there. You may have a candida infection. The reason that you notice it when you eat meat is that meat tends to be alkaline, a good environment for yeast to grow in. Fruit and vegetables tend to be more acidic, therefore not providing a good home for the infection to thrive in.
I've had this too and it went away on its own, but I suspect there was more as I had a mild sinus infection that I got rid of by using coconut oil to rinse out my sinuses for a few days in a row.
It's possible it's candida, or some die off. See this question.
