My girlfriend and I have been paleo for about a month now. She used to be quite a heavy snorer, but since going paleo I've noticed it has all but vanished.

Has anyone else had similar experiences, and can you explain why?

My husband was a horrific snorer before going paleo. His snoring has all but stopped now, but I think it has more to do with the 40 pound weight loss than anything specifically "paleo." His asthma and allergy symptoms have improved greatly as well. Either way, we're both MUCH happier sleepers these days.

I have noticed that my husband indeed snores less....much much less. Some nights, he doesn't snore at all. I actually get to sleep! His allergies and sinus problems also diminish while on Paleo.

Yep. I stopped snoring after being gluten-free for about 3 weeks.

i am a grand snorer. my partner says he's not noticed any improvement in the 6.5 months i've been following a paleo lifestyle. :( in fairness, my snoring seems mostly related to my sleep apnea. this has not improved either.

Back in may I asked pretty much the same thing.

Yes - my husband snored like a foghorn pre-Paleo. We were using a white noise machine, earplugs, snore sprays, etc. but Paleo did the trick!

I view snoring as indicative of inflammation and/or insulin resistance.

To this date if we have too many cheats eating out - vegetable oils, etc. he will snore somewhat.

My father also used to snore like a foghorn (yes, I could hear him upstairs!) but is now normal on low-carbish (75-150 g carbs) Paleo.

Yes. It happened while doing a Whole 30. I suspect it was cutting out the dairy that helped since after I reintroduced some I experienced lots of congestion.

I have noticed weight loss reduce and eventually eliminate snoring. If the person in question has lost some weight this may be a contributing factor.

No change snore wise. Lost 55 pounds. Dentist said any noise means obstruction. Suggested sleep study, which I had. I won't use the CPAP machine they wanted me to use, it dried out my sinuses made dents in my face and gave me a rash. I was really hoping losing weight would be the solution but it turns out my orthodontia as a teen pulled my uppers back to far and messed up my jaw. Getting a plastic thingy to wear at night to keep my jaw thrust forward.

I wish Paleo made my snoring and OSA go away. I got rid of GERD, headaches, insulin resistance, and 55 lbs of adiposity so I guess I should be happy!

Yes. My sleep apnea disappeared within days of me going low-carb. It has made an incredible difference to my fatigue levels and to the quality of my life.
