Ive been eating paleo for 3 months now. Almost gave up at the beginning because it gave me bad stomach cramps and diarrhea for 10 days. I finally went on a one day, saltine and ginger ale diet and was back to normal. However, I've been studying nutrition for years(even teaching classes) and paleo just made so much sense. So I tried again. Now my problem is with bowl movements. I still go everyday but instead of the perfect soft "s" or "c" shape, it is hard marbles. I know that means fiber intake is low. So I'm now taking 7 Fiber Plus (Ortho molecular) supplements a day and no change. Does anyone else have that problem on this diet and how do I get back to where I was?
Drop the fiber supplement. It's just irritating for your gut.
Magnesium is often deficient for many folk (and hard to get from food/water these days.) Adding 200-600 mg Magnesium Citrate before bed helps the body relax & eases constipation.
I believe it takes our bodies time to adjust to varying levels of fiber (whether increasing or decreasing). That was definitely the case for me. How long has it been since you started back on paleo and what do you eat? Also, is your urine dark yellow or clear? That is a good check to see if you're dehydrated which may contribute to this.

There's no absolute causal link between fiber intake and hard stools. It is the most important factor, but definitely not the only one, as you've proven yourself by taking fiber supplements. If it were that easy, fiber would be a miracle cure for millions of people suffering from constipation and other related issues.
Drinking plenty of water is very important in combination with taking fiber with no effect. The more fiber you take, the more you should drink. Otherwise the fibers just can't do what they're supposed to do (=making stool softer and easier to pass). That's about the only suggestion I can make for now.
