I think there is a paleo blog by a chick called "Cave girl eats". From memory she had some cool homemade natural body products and no 'poo stuff etc. |

The best site I know of for good, reliable and safe information on soapmaking is Miller's Homemade Soap Pages If you make soap, be sure to read all her site first. It's old and not at all stylish looking, but excellent and in depth. |

I'm addicted to Wellness Mama's blog and have tried out a bunch of her lotion, lip balm, tooth paste, deodorant and body scrub recipes. I cannot, however, recommend her coconut milk/Dr. Bronner's shampoo recipe - it did NOT work for me! |

I'm a fan of crunchybetty.com as far as homemade DIY beauty treatments. She has some really great ideas on her site. |

There are quite a few out there. One that you should beware of instructs you to mix Dr. Brommer's Liquid Castille Soap, Tea Tree Oil, Water, and Apple Cider Vinegar. Everything starts out great, and then your hair turns into a gummy, greasy mess... Just watch out for that one. I don't want you to have the same experience I did!! Good luck :) |

I've posted about this before, so sorry if a repeat, but I would honestly be careful of most homemade beauty product recipes, particularly if they entail using water without proper preservatives. A lot of the stuff out there is just begging for mold and fungi and other nasties. I think some of these people are just plain irresponsible, putting these things out there. Plus, you get stuff like that ick shampoo recipe above. (NOTE: any soap made of lye is going to strip the hell out of your hair because of its PH level. Some people don't mind this. most do.) |

I have a cosmetology license, I'd say before you go slapping DIY stuff in your hair or on your skin you might want to buy a Ph tester kit to test anything you do make just so you don't damage your hair or dry out your skin. The Ph of you hair and skin is around 4.5 to 5.5 which is slightly acidic but for a reason. It wards off pathogens that can cause disease so you want to kep it at the Ph level intended or at least neutral which would be at 7. Anything higher than 7 you're opening up the cuticle layers and letting things penetrate to the cortex. I will say that Pureology is a great hair product line that is sulfate free and plant based. I'm not sure of any other ingredients but you can look up the info off the website and I'm sure you can contact them if you have questions. |
