Does anyone know of a Paleo friendly GI Specialist in Nashville, TN? Or there-abouts? I am being referred to one by my Doctor for IBS. I think I just have fructose intolerance and sensitivity to FODMAPs. However, I don't know how to tell if it is this or SIBO. Any tips for when I see the specialist?

If your GI prescribes any PPIs - DO NOT TAKE THEM. Or antibiotics - DO NOT TAKE THEM. In fact, if you are given any medicine, be very cautious. And take anything a GI doctor tells you with a grain of salt. They are trying their best, they just do not know. Just think - they got most of their knowledge in college/university, and it was at least ten years ago. Even if they had any professional development, they still do not have enough time to read up on all new research out there.

Have you tried active probiotics? GAPS? Bone broth? Raw foods with every meal? If I were you, I would go to a naturopath for a second opinion, but I would ask around for a good one. I think 80% of all GI problems can be solved with just dietary modifications alone. The only thing you need conventional medicine for is some tests, and even they are not very helpful. Any test results are only valid when they are combined with symptoms.

Good luck!

I used to drink homemade coconut milk kefir religiously. At first, it made everything so much better, but not I think it made things worse. I used to get some abdominal pain from eating FODMAPs, but not like I do now. Now, I look 5 months pregnant from a banana, or double over in pain from 1/2 an avocado. My symptoms are immediate though, and so many places says it takes at least an hour to show up.. so I'm unsure of what I have going on. – Primal Woman Aug 11 at 3:04
I follow strict Paleo, but I haven't tried anything else. I have received a lot of antibiotic in the past 2 years, and I think that has led me where I am. I just don't understand why I didn't used to hurt so much after eating? Could the Paleo diet have caused all this gut pain? – Primal Woman Aug 11 at 3:06
Probiotics and coconut milk kefir are not the same. However, your symptoms seem quite unusual. Yes, it looks like you need a GI doctor BUT I would also go to a naturopath for a second opinion. A GI doctor can diagnose you (hopefully), but they might only know one way to solve it - with medication. Most time it will backfire on you. – VB Aug 11 at 3:09
Wait a second - you received A LOT OF ANTIBIOTICS??? Here you go!!! It is all clear to me know! Your digestive system is out of whack! No, it is not Paleo, it is antibiotics! – VB Aug 11 at 3:10
I would go for GAPS if I were you, but go to a regular doctor for sure (if he is a good one) to get some testing done. Probably gastroscopy - you might have a gastritis. And nobody tells you that you need good probiotic for gastritis. – VB Aug 11 at 3:12

I live in Huntsville, AL and have an outstanding Paleo-friendly gastroenterologist. His name is Joseph Brasco. He has the 'Gut Check with Dr. Brasco' forum on the Robb Wolf website. http://robbwolf.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=48&sid=f9bef0a7fde12e8c6f736f0e98b2dea2

I went to him for long-time "IBS" type symptoms. Nashville is really not far from Huntsville at all. Really worth the drive! It's only about 1 hour 45 mins away from you.

Well don't go to Dr. Ganda at St. Thomas. He said my symptoms were being caused by the creatine I was supplementing with. I had been cycled off for a month and symptoms were getting worse. They did check for H. Pylori and Celiac's both came back negative.

I would go to them if you need any GI work done not related, as they are very nice, quick, and all that.

Dr Blankenship in McMinnville is your best bet It it a bit of a haul from nashville but he is the best I've ever seen. Very active in A4M and paleo culture.
