So, Violet9 suggested this a while back but I didn't think my persistent and untreatable "acne" on one specific part of my nose was rosacea (d'oh). After doing some more research, I am almost positive that is what it is. I'd like to avoid going to the dermatologist, at least for a little while, to see if I can manage this on my own.
I am noticing a thickening of the skin on one side of my nose with very deep redness and some small acne-like bumps. It goes without saying it is very embarrassing.
My current skin regime: splashing with just water, not adding any type of moisturizer. I was doing the oil cleansing method for a few months but noticed it was actually making my skin drier. I use a really high quality 100% mineral powder for make up.
I have been primal (no dairy, minimal chocolate and wine) for 8 plus months. I formerly was incorporating liver every week but I am going to stop doing that for awhile, since I read that an excess of vitamin A will exacerbate symptoms. I eliminated coffee about a month ago. I've cut back on my drinking for the last month (maybe 1 - 3 glasses / week). I have an autoimmune disorder where I am not supposed to be in the sun, so I usually limit my sun intake anyway (though I have gotten more lax with that, since I have been able to tolerate it more and everybody touts the benefits of sunshine). I have been supplementing with D3 (formerly 5000 IU, about to increase to 8000 IU), Zinc, Magnesium, Copper, Chromium, K2, Biotin, Evening Primrose Oil, CoQ10, and occasionally Cod Liver Oil (though rarely, since I usually get sufficient stores from my diet). I know that is a ton of supplements but I have been experimenting with the Perfect Health Diet and wanted to see how I'd do on their supplement list for a month.
What else should I do? I've been through the rosacea.org list of common triggers but I'd like to hear how you all are managing your rosacea / herbal remedies / types of face wash (if any). I know there was a similar question posted awhile back, but I'd like to get an updated answer. Also, how soon after consuming a trigger food do you notice an outbreak?
EDIT: I am going to try increasing my dosage of Evening Primrose Oil, cycling in some topical treatment with EPO and get back to a stricter autoimmune protocol. I'll report back in a month or so and update results. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.
