As much as I’m not a fan of Chronic Cardio, I understand that a lot of people are interested in pursuing endurance events. I get it. I used to be one of them. More and more, now, I’m convinced there is a way to do it in a low-carb environment without sacrificing health, and I’m working on a book due out at the end of next year entitled “Primal Endurance” that explores how to do it. Stay tuned!
I don't really care about the low-carb part of the equation but I'm very interested in the idea of healthy endurance activity.

Are you a healthy endurance athlete? What's your story? Do you worry about dropping dead of a heart attack or do you think the fear of sudden death during intense endurance activity is overblown? Or, do you just figure you have to die from something and it might as well be something you love?
And, finally, if you were writing a book on primal endurance what would be your main points?
I am! Well, I'm more gluten-free than I am Paleo, but that's hard enough for longer efforts. I run ultramarathons - so far the furthest I've run is ~100 miles.
I think from the outside, it looks like I do this for "exercise", but really I do it because I love being on the trails, hanging out with other ultra-runners, and testing myself. It's nice to be able to get away for a long period with no Internet or cell phone. When I've been super busy, a 6 hour training run sound very nice and relaxing!
Until recently, I haven't been super-strict on myself, allowing cheats every now and then, especially at races where pizza looks mighty tempting in the wee hours of the night. I've made it up to about the 50K distance with no wheat products, and I think I will definitely be able to do much better at it now that I'm more used to eating this way every single day.
I don't do the low-carb or the fasting thing. My BMI is right in the middle of the healthy range and I get to eat about 2800-3000 cal a day without budging the scale (and currently I've reduced miles for the summer, so that high number of calories isn't because I'm running it off!)
I'm interested in learning more about fueling myself pre-workout (even the week leading up to a long race) and during, both for training and for races. I have no interest in going slow all the time and burning fat reserves...sometimes I want to have enough gas to really go!

I don't' really think I can be classified a true endurance athlete but have done 1/2s and sprint tris. I run 15-20 mi/week, plus Bikram yoga 2x, plus MDA style strength training 2x. Since April, I've been eating low-moderate carb (~100g/day). For the first two weeks, I didn't think I was going to stick to it. My training was AWFUL and I had a race (Ragnar) coming up. The folks on here encouraged me to stick it out. I did and in week 3 my body adapted. Since then, I feel like I've been getting progressively stronger and I know my pace is up. I feel great, my training is working, so I'm sticking with it.
