Has anyone noticed a difference in their blood clotting time after going Paleo? Mine seems to take longer nowadays even though I take a 1mg Vitamin K drop daily.

Fish oil slows clotting. For better or worse. Probably better than aspirin and the like tho since its an anti-inflamitory as well. |

I'm wondering what kind of issues you're having that you noticed this. My first thought was fish oil. Prior to going Paleo I had seen an article that said that fish oil can thin the blood causing an increase in clotting time, but I don't know how much fish oil it would take to do so. I can only offer two examples from personal experience which may or may not shed light on the question. First, as a female I haven't noticed any difference in my menstrual cycle since going Paleo. I've also had blood taken at least once. In neither case was there difficulty with regards to either an excess of blood or in clotting. Second, last week I nearly sliced the end of my pinky finger off with a mandolin and I didn't think it would ever stop bleeding. In this case it was obviously due to the severity of the wound. So this leads me back to wondering what happened to prompt the question. Perhaps if we had a better idea of what you are experiencing we might have a better answer. |

Yes. This AM I cut my finger cooking and it took about 2 hrs to stop bleeding and about 3 to fully heal. Very small cut, probably 5mm in length and 2mm deep. I was surprised. I have been eating paleo for about a month and stopped taking a daily aspirin about 3 weeks ago. Anyone else? |

No. Now and then I test my BG several times over the course of a day just to stay "in touch." Once I feed the droplet of blood onto the test strip, one wipe/lick of the finger and there's no more bleeding. I haven't had any deep accidental cuts lately but small ones have closed after a minute or two (with squeezing then a band-aid) with no prolonged bleeding. |

I have a DVT (Bloodclot) in my left leg ranging from below my knee to my upper thigh, close to my groin. It has been there for almost a year now and I do take daily blood thinners (Warfarin). Will eating Paleo make the clot better or worse? |
