So my birthday is coming up at the end of July and I would like to make a GOOD paleo chocolate cake. I said 'mostly' because I don't want to be evangelical about being paleo for the cake and ice cream. I think once you've moved on to 'paleo baking' it's really a stretch to truly be paleo anyway. But I personally think it's okay to splurge every now and then and I don't think that it's the end of the world. Actually, if I didn't feel physically sick from eating gluten and dairy then I would just make a regular cake. So basically, I'm wondering if anyone has a really great chocolate cake recipes. I can't tolerate milk, but butter is fine. I don't mind using sugar either, or baking soda/baking powder. I've tried searching blogs, but I haven't really found anything that looks that promising to me.

Coconut flour chocolate cake (personally, I would replace the grapeseed oil in her recipe with butter): http://www.elanaspantry.com/chocolate-cake-coconut-flour-continued/

Happy early birthday!
this is the most amazing thing ever! and 100% paleo!!
http://slowlikehoney.net/2012/03/27/the-ultimate-5-ingredient-chocolate-dessert/ I made a flourless chocolate cake very similar to this one last winter -- think I used less sugar -- for a party and it was delicious and very well received. Made a raspberry sauce for it by simmering some frozen berries with honey on the stove top -- yum!
This dark chocolate coconut recipe looks good: http://www.primal-palate.com/2010/09/happy-birthday-hayley-dark-chocolate.html
I was going to make it for my birthday but got too busy with other stuff. But I definately want to try it. Any recipe with lots of pictures of the process is a plus in my book!
These recipes look pretty good. I would replace any seed oils with coconut oil or butter. Also, rather than using Agave nectar, which is high in fructose, I would replace it with Grade B Maple syrup.
Check out Flourless Chocolate Cake 1 on All recipes. It has 1/2 cup of sugar but I used only 1/4 cup and Lindt 70% chocolate for the cake and Let it set over night in Fridge. Served with Chocolate Ganache (70% Chocolate with Dash of Cream) thinned or thickened to your delight....or Whipped Heavy Cream and served on the side. most people chose both.
However, this cake is expensive in my book if only cooking for a couple. appx $25-30 just for ingredients unless you canget the lindt bars on sale.
these -- http://beta.primal-palate.com/recipe/the-reeces-cupcake-chocolate-chocolate-chip-cupcakes-with-sunbutter-frosting/ -- are cupcakes but they are SO good. like.....SO SO good.
I love the lava cake we occasionally make.
Melt 100 gr dark chocolate and 1/4 cup butter. Add 2 eggs, 1/4 cup almond meal, and 2 tbsp sugar (optional).
We bake at 350 for 15 mins or so, but you could bake it longer to make a non-lava version.
