A bit of a vinegar smell sounds normal. Just drink it. :)

A vinegary smell just means it's well-fermented. The acetic acid is a byproduct of some of the bacteria in the SCOBY. – BoneBrothFast Aug 13 at 2:24
Ok I drank it and it was good, I will have to thank my friend!! – AlexTasch Aug 14 at 22:12

Drink it, it'll be tasty. If you're still afraid, dilute it with a bit of water. The store bought stuff isn't fermented for too long and is sweeter, this is to market to the SAD eater's palate. :)

You've got the real stuff there.
