I need some suggestions of snacks I can store in my desk at work. I don't have a lot of space, and it needs to be something that can be okay in a desk for at least a week, though I'd prefer longer. I am really easily distracted, so it is hard for me to remember to grab a snack or two each morning to have at work, so it is not ideal to have to remember to bring something each day.

Even pre-paleo, I have always stashed some nuts in my desk for snacking, like pistachios, almonds, etc. However, I also had lots of other things, like crackers, hard candy, granola bars. Right now, the only thing I have are some nuts, and I get really tired of eating those every time I am hungry before or after lunch...

I'd love some suggestions! I try to remember to grab a banana or something else every morning, but as I said, I often forget, or I will eat it, and then want something else later.

Smoked meat stores well at room temp. Keep a few smoked spare-ribs or a smoked turkey leg handy in a drawer for a quick snack. ;-) – Talldog Aug 14 at 21:32

  • Canned tuna/salmon
  • Canned pineapple
  • Seaweed snacks (SeaSnax brand)
  • Kale chips
  • Banana chips (don't go nuts!)
  • Beef jerky (check the ingredients)
  • Fruit (clementines, apples, berries, cherry tomatoes, etc.)
  • Protein powder (if you're into that)
  • Coconut products (shredded, oil, butter, etc.)
  • Almond butter
  • Dark chocolate (if you're into that)
  • Trail mix
  • Sweet potato chips

And don't go bananas on the nuts either. – Dave S. Aug 16 at 13:36

I second this suggestion. I always keep a bar in my backpack just in case I forget to bring anything else. – Joseph S. Aug 14 at 21:31
I had to cut out the Lara bars. Too much sugar for me - and too tempting. – Dave S. Aug 16 at 13:37

Elunah's list is great. I really like to keep coconut oil and butter in my desk. Just a little is filling and feels a bit indulgent. It will last and last at room temp. I simply eat a spoonful or two. Small cans of tuna and salmon with pull tops are handy, too.

Sweet potatoes. Just wrap in a paper towel and nuke for 3 minutes. If you have access to a fridge, keep a stick of butter in there.

I keep butter in my desk. As long as I use it within a week or two, it's fine. – Dave S. Aug 16 at 13:38
