Hey everyone! I'm interested in doing a bone broth fast and had a few questions. First how long is ideal for a fast? Second, I have a butcher near by but the meat isn't organic. They do sell bones for $5 for like 25 lbs. I have a whole foods about an hour away and they only have buffalo bones for $2.99 per lb. Which would you do? How many bones per 5 quart pot? Should I buy a pressure cooker? Lastly, can i add onions and celery? Thanks for your help!
4-10 days. When you make it to 4 days, asses how you feel and whether or not you'd like to continue. But make sure you add adequate amounts of salt and fat to the bone broth to keep yourself hydrated and keep your energy up.
Non-organic bones are fine. Don't waste your money on the Whole Foods bones.
You can put in as many bones as it takes to fill the pot, but it's more economical to put in 4 or so large bones from the neck, feet and shin of the animal. Pressure cookers might help, but in reality it's just a luxury. All you need is a crockpot or any huge pot that you can fill about halfway with bones.
You can add onions and celery if you don't have issues with FODMAPs.
