Everytime I come to this site, I want to leave within 30 seconds, because I get the stupid pop up ad to sign up for paleo hack spam. Somehow it defeats my no pop up ads browser setting and ad blocker add-in. Can someone who runs this site turn that nonsense off?

After you log in and tell it to stay logged in the popup goes away. If this is not happening your browser is likely caching a copy of the page or the script and displaying it instead of the live page/script. If you are using Internet Explorer I can almost guarantee that is the issue.

Clear your browser cache, it should fix the problem.

There must be a better way for this site to pay for itself. Constantly working around this popup is getting very tired. – PaleoDel Aug 18 at 21:54

Please re-read what I wrote, there should be no popup. I haven't seen one on this site since I signed up and I doubt that some get them and some don't. – Thrak Aug 18 at 22:18

You only get that promo if you're not logged in. If you stay logged in, that particular pop-over doesn't show up.

I logged in and was simply rewarded with another popup ad. – 1mantruthsquad Aug 18 at 16:53

Never see any popups while logged in, even without AdBlock. – Matt Aug 18 at 19:06

I've never seen a pop-up here, myself. – aseafish Aug 18 at 20:56

Sorry, not true. I'm always logged in, and I always get it. I wouldn't mind it once a day even. But it's every time I come to the site, which is several times a day. – PaleoDel Aug 18 at 21:52
Then there is something going on with your browser. – Thrak Aug 18 at 22:19

I also hate the ads, but not enough to stop coming here. Well, I just installed AdBlock for Chrome and now I am ad free. Hooray!

Sorry your ad-blocker doesn't work. Maybe you should look into that...

Yep, Adblock for Chrome works great. – Austin Aug 18 at 18:07

I've never seen a popup ad here. Not that I'm saying they don't exist, but I guess I've been lucky.

It's funny as that was my first question

http://paleohacks.com/questions/118329/meta-how-can-i-get-rid-of-the-pop-up-that-comes-up-everytime-i-come-to-the-site#axzz23vq9w5vK

I keep myself signed in and I no longer have any issues with pop-ups

I never see any popups in Chrome, as others have said. However, on my Kindle, I see banner ads. Today, an ad crowed, "Montel Williams: six pack at 56! How'd he do it?" So naturally I clicked it with the anticipation of seeing Montel's abs. No dice. Hey Montel: pix, or it didn't happen!

That aside, sustaining itself with ads means we don't pay to use this valuable resource. And since Chrome makes it easy to block most ads, grousing about it here seems ungrateful, to say the least. I suggest downloading an appropriate browser, put up with the ads, or take a hike.

I got this: http://www.abine.com/dntdetail.php/ from another thread here and installed it. Now, no ads ever.

I have it on fairly good authority that Melissa left PH over the issue of the popup. Kurt Harris, too.

No popups. Because I'm signed in and all, then leave my self signed in.

I'm signed in all the time, and get this popup every time I visit teh site. It's getting old. – PaleoDel Aug 18 at 21:55
@PaleoDel: what is your browser? – Christopher Gagnon Aug 18 at 23:12

I never got those pop ups, and the ads are gone with firefox adblock+ (although I miss those Asian dating ads... ;p)

Pop ups are annoying, ones that half get past my blockers are more annoying - I've got some dude raising his hands to a crucifix and then a space to enter my email address. Um, NO. Freaks.
