Considering how much sugar I ate before going paleo, I never noticed any physiologic effect of it. Has anyone else noticed that if they have something sugary (say a cupcake from CRUMBS) that for a few hours after they feel an intense sympathetic response almost as if one had drunk a strong cup of coffee?
I know many reactions to sugar splurges have been previously discussed. But I am talking more about a dysphoria than anything like say a canker sore.
Love how the "caller" describes his binge:
"So I was at a location where they
had halloween candy and i, thought to myself, F-it, Im going for it. So i had probably ten
pieces of your standard garbage of the world halloween size (small) candy bars and roughly
1/3 of a coca-cola. then i almost died i think. i went pale, i couldnt even handle sitting
down, i had to go outside, where it was raining, and lay down for about ten minutes. vision
was going away, breathing was hard. calling 911 entered my thoughts. then was able to get
up and throw up, went and ate some meat and felt better."
Embarrassing, but I think a lot of us have been there...
For years, I've noticed if I pound down a bunch of sugar, I suddenly feel very hot for a few minutes. The reaction is almost immediate. It's actually not super unpleasant or anything, but I try to avoid it for health reasons. I haven't had it for a long time now on paleo, but a while back, I got it again after eating a few dates at a paleo picnic. I haven't had it from any other fruit though. I usually only get it from processed sugary foods. Starch alone won't do it. There has got to be sugar involved.
Absolutely. I consisted mainly on sweets, fruit, carbs, and heavy craft beers before discovering Paleo. Been Paleo now for 8-9 months. If I have too much dark chocolate, a beer (very infrequent), or some fruit, I feel a heavy pulse sensation for a few hours after. Don't like it much, lol.
