I've been trying to find more natural treats for my cat, and stumbled upon this at my local PetCo:
I have to admit, as great of a find as it was for kitty, it's tempting to try myself!

I don't think pet food gets held to the same standards of quality as people food, so you'd be putting yourself at risk for bacteria and other contaminants. I wouldn't eat it. |

lol. You know you can buy real salmon jerky online. And yes, It is freaking fantastic! http://www.amazon.com/SeaBear-Smoked-Salmon-Jerky-1-25-Ounce/dp/B001EPPIT8/ I second what Anthony said though, the standards for pet food and human food are not the same even if it is all natural. That said, I have eaten dog food on a few occasions* and I didn't keel over and die... ;) *It was all in good fun. |

This reminds me of something that happened a couple days ago. I went to the local butcher shop to get liver in the freezer labeled pet food, where it usually is. I found some bone meal and brought it to the register. And the guy at the register's eyes lit up. "Oh, this is really good stuff. High quality, easily absorbable. Mix it in with food. It's so great cuz it's all natural calcium... good for bones." Me: So I can put it on the liver when I fry it or something? Him: Oh, totally. Me: Great, I look forward to this. Him [Realizes I'm going to use it for my own food]: Oh no, this is for pets! He proceeds to look at me judgmentally and say that it's for pets, not humans. Looks at me like I'm crazy as I walk out. I've eaten a little. It was fine, I'm fine. Your story is different, I know. Just wanted to tell that story. |

Instead of eating the cat food, why don't you just eat the cat?*. That'd be more Paleo. *you have to boil it twice and throw away the water, otherwise it's too sweet (according to my uncle who used to undulge in a bit of boiled pussy cat as a WWII PoW). |

I've been tempted to purchase the US Wellness Meats pet burger. They are very adept at not saying either way if this is okay for humans. I would try that before I'd try something commercially available. I would like to know if anyone has actually had the pet burger, though. |

Packaged meat are often preserved with nitrates. So I wouldn't eat it. Additionally Lex Rooker and other Raw Paleo dieters has been eating Slanker's Pet Food RAW for years and has no problems. |

I've found pretty much everything in pet stores to be overpriced and/or low quality. Best cat treats I've found (which also happen to be people food if you feel like joining in), are little dried shrimp and bonito flakes that can be picked up at your local Asian market or ordered online. Raw chicken heart chunks, raw egg yolk, and little bits of raw ground beef get gobbled up pretty quickly by the kitties. I usually share a few bites of my steak with them too. |
