21 year old male. took way too many antibiotics when i was younger, for acne. started when i was 15, at the time i did not know any better but i slowly developed IBS, diarrhea with alternating constipation. i was like this for years, eating horrible food which just fed the cycle..

i knew something had to be done because it was affecting my health in a major way. i had over 25 other symptoms, yes, 25. long story short, i had/have some type of massive fungal or bacterial infection, i guess the general umbrella term is called "candida". im seeing a nautropathic doctor and i recently got stool tested and am awaiting the results.

currently i can not digest anything but protein sources and vegetables, i cant even have yams or i get constipated..

my question though is, generally speaking, how long does one have to stick with it before digestive issues improve?

also, its very depressing and difficult to basically get all your carb sources from vegetables. how long do you think i have to stick with this strict diet before i can incorporate yams again?

Look into the GAPS protocol, Paleo gut healing protocol or the Paleo autoimmune protocol.

Heal your gut, reduce inflammation. The winner is you.

I keep coming up with things to offer, but Vern got the gist. Heal the gut.

Maybe that's getting good probiotics, maybe even a brief bit of kefir to get the bacteria that colonizes your gut. Maybe as extreme as a fecal transplant, as much as that has a strong ick-factor, they are rising in popularity for its ability to restore gut microbiota to healthy.

It might take a long while before a healed gut is ready for foods it doesn't tolerate right now. :(
