I'm an avid reader, and quite the nerd. Before I went Paleo-ish, the only time I'd ever thought of what prehistoric/paleolithic peoples may have eaten was in the context of fictional literature - in my case, the Clan of the Cave Bear series, by Jean Auel. Now, when I'm chowing down to a big steak with a medley of veggies, or hunting up dandelions to eat, or picking my wild blackberries, sometimes I totally imagine I'm Ayla travelling across the Plains of Passage, and my pit mix and my cat are like Wolf and Baby. I know it's silly, but it's really super fun! Plus, (not that I think my diet is boring or anything, but...) I think it really helps keep it interesting, and thus, easier to stick with during moments of temptation!
Does anyone else let their imagination just run wild with Paleo thoughts? What does being/eating Paleo lead you to think and dream of? Do you think it helps you with your nutrition or lifestyle goals?
I absolutely visualise Ayla when I think back to paleo eating! I love that series of books. I think about the amount of work represented in simply sustaining life and become thankful that all I have to do is walk to the farmer's market. It really helps ground and centre me.
I think about getting lost in the Canadian wilderness, killing a moose with my bare hands, fighting a bear for the carcass, and chowing down on the seared flesh in Smeagol (see: Lord of the Rings) fashion.
*Beats chest emphatically*
One time I ran randomly around the woods (off the path) with no shoes, no shirt..Just shorts. I really felt like a caveman. I dragged logs, threw rocks, climed trees. It actually wasn't as painful on the feet as you would think (until you get back on the actual path)
Sounds a little like a couple of my fifth grade students who give me all kinds of song and dance about running away to the wilderness to "live off the land" and escape math class. As soon as the bell rings they grab their chips and cookies. So much for living off the land. :-)
