Just a theory, but does anyone know if intermittent fasting could increase BUN and uric acid because with a shorter feeding window (as opposed to throughout the day), and thus with protein consumption being condensed/concentrated, the kidneys have less time and work harder to process a larger amount of protein which results in elevated BUN and uric acid levels? Even with slightly reducing protein to control acidity, I still am getting lip blisters which is a symptom of too low a pH.

The short answer to your question is yes that is prob why your bun is going up. That's why they are always modifying the calculation of bun from a chem7 test by taking into account avg body weights, muscle mass, age gender And protein consumption. Which is why clinicians use bun in th context of bun creatinine ratios AND clinical symptoms which is much more important than a single number. Unless you are also anuric or peeing less than 400 ml per day, it doesn't sound like u have renal failure to me... So...yes your bun spike is reflecting the intermittent protein load you eat. If you don have any kidney problems then nothing to worry about |

It could be possible but if you have the eating window of 8 hours I feel like our stomachs would be able to handle it. Also BUN doesn't get elevated unless you are really overeating on protein to the level of toxicity (the Jaminets says this is over a pound of meat and can lead to ammonia poisoning!) My $.02: I limit my protein intake and do IF and my BuN which was previously elevated, declined. |
