Is it bad to put steaming hot food like meat and veggies in a plastic container or ziplock bag right away? Does it partially melt the plastic or anything? Sometimes I'm in a hurry and have to do this...

I often wonder this myself. I usually end up waiting until my food has cooled down in the pot before I put it in plastic baggies. – PlantGirl Aug 28 at 17:34

Yes, it is bad, when you heat up plastic and put it in contact with food, it bleeds BPA and other Hormone disruptive chemicals, I would rather use aluminum foil or a glass container.

Aluminum can be bad as well. – AmandaLP Aug 28 at 20:31

Yes, but only when in contact with high acidity – Alvaro Aug 28 at 21:07

Use a glass jar. I put my lunch in glass jars now instead of plastic containers.

I put hot food into glass containers. If I need to put them in plastic, I let them cool first, then repackage. – AmandaLP Aug 28 at 20:31

Would aluminum foil be a better choice?
