Convincing your partner to go paleo.... more energy and sex drive X 2 people.

Thank you.. I was curious if there was anything that would kinda "add" to the whole Paleo diet.. supplements etc..

I think eating healthy and taking care of yourself is the best aid there is. It makes you have more energy and feel better about yourself. Nothing sexier in my book.

Looking good naked is the best aphrodisiac.

Coconut oil makes a great lubricant.

Yes, and it's massage oil and you can eat it too! – Pieter D Nov 22 2010 at 18:57

best lube ever in general, but serious miracle lube for anyone (male or female) who ever has yeast or fungal infections in the nether regions... – amanda Nov 22 2010 at 23:45

It was my introduction to coconut oil actually. A friend recommended it because even organic lubricants irritate me. It didn't take long to decide to add it to other less amorous times of my life, like cooking eggs and such. I now have three jars around my house--one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. – amanda Nov 23 2010 at 20:56

LMAO, better not confuse which jar goes where! – Eva Nov 24 2010 at 4:56

Thanks.. reason I ask is because I am attempting to supplement my semi-paleo diet with some natural herbs/vitamins to help with it that is why I ask.

To be honest I think it would be better to think of supplements After making it to full paleo, as opposed to "semi-paleo". – Pétur Nov 22 2010 at 20:49
Lots of supplements have fillers that are cross contaminated with gluten. – NoGluten Nov 23 2010 at 0:42
Most online supplement sites allow you to easily filter out gluten containing supps. – Geoff Nov 23 2010 at 17:52

Going out into the woods, killing things, bringing them home, and waving the bloody dead bodies at my wife has worked well for me, but looking better naked ain't bad either.

@Eva: I'll admit that she was more startled than impressed the time she woke up in bed to find me waving that grouse at her but hey... – Fearsclave Nov 23 2010 at 12:49

Maca root (powder or extract) seems to be somewhat effective: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18801111

Good for sperm count? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11753476

Pubmed has a ton of stuff about it.

I used to work for a company that made a hedonist coffee with maca powder- combination of expresso, maca, and perhaps a touch of alcohol (special coffee for special occasion) seemed pretty dynamite. – JeJ Dec 16 2011 at 2:41

"Oysters are high in zinc, which raises sperm and testosterone production. Oysters also contain dopamine, a hormone known to increase libido."

Ginseng is supposedly an aphrodisiac, I haven't really tried it specifically for sexual assistance though...

if you have a serious problem, try cialis. otherwise i'd take additional zinc and/or 25-50mg DHEA a day. and, especially true for sexual performance: "use it, or lose it"

  • Replace time spent with pilexated women (ahem...porn) with cooking and exercising
  • Horny Goat Weed (not sure about that one, but it always sounded intriguing)

Batman, like Batin, could also inspire sex. Superhero fetish? – JeJ Apr 15 2012 at 0:33

Anything that raises testosterone and/or gets you off funky big pharma style meds would probably help.

Looks like this website hates supplements, "just eat real food!" Except for vitamin D3, vitamin K, iodine and fish oil. Oh and sometimes it's also good to take probiotics, enzymes, l-glutamine, and magnesium. And sometimes it's good to take zinc, and creatine. Huh, that's a long list of supplements from a website that always shoots down the idea of using them.

Btw, your answer is Arginine. 2 grams daily and a few more before activity on an empty stomach will make you perform like superman.

I think that there's a difference in views on supplements between those of us who came to Paleo from the mainstream, and those of us who came to Paleo from the wonderful world of wacky fringe diets such as veganism or the bodybuilding world. I'm a strict no-supp kind of guy, having basically gone from locavoring to Paleo in a very short timeline. It'd be interesting to look into the diet backgrounds of the supp/no supp crowds. – Fearsclave Nov 23 2010 at 18:03
You are strict no supp but have you taken/do you take any of the items I listed? Fish oil? IMO diet is #1 but some people are so out of whack that supplements will help heal them faster. Also the stress levels we experience is so much higher then we evolved to handle that some supps could be a very beneficial long term aid. I agree with you that Paleo over all else but some people seem to be turning this into a religion/cult..."No!...supplements are not allowed in our holy doctrine...the sacred books made no mention of it...kill the infidel!". – Geoff Nov 24 2010 at 0:18
@Geoff What website are you claiming hates supplements? Every Paleo, BioHack, Vegan, Vegitarian, in short any site where the people are trying to look or feel better supports supplements to some degree or another. Including this one. – Satchmo Apr 15 2012 at 2:15

Are these suggestions for both MEN and WOMEN? thanks

Supplements, even those marked gluten free, tend to contain gluten from cross contamination because they are manufactured in shared facilities. Ask your supplement manufacturer if they test the ingredients before the product is made and if they test the product upon packaging. (Short answer - they don't.)

There's very little regulation for supplements. Just because the bottle says it contains x amount of Yohimbe means very little. http://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2010/08/supplements_inadequately_regul.html

And then there's the potential side effects: http://www.wwlp.com/dpp/health/dietary-supplements-pose-health-risks

The sexual performance supplements have been found to contain viagra type meds and other possibly harmful ingredients. http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm048386.htm

Small amounts of gluten add up. Gluten could be causing the problem in the first place, assuming the OP does have an issue instead just looking for some optional enhancement.
http://www.brighthub.com/health/diet-nutrition/articles/76333.aspx

You need to pressure your doctors(s) to help you uncover the root cause of this issue, because there are many reports on the ED boards of men having success with meds for the first 10 years or so, but then they stop working, even at higher dosages.

If you do go with meds, get your hearing checked: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/05/100518105146.htm

The Paleo diet can do a lot for sexual health, but some people need to be completely gluten free to see the best results.

Eat watermelon. It has the amino acid L-Citrulline in it that makes nitric oxide, the natural Viagra. Here is the research on Citrulline.

Let's compile the answers into a coherent list. Look better naked, by going 100% paleo. Get your partner to look better by going 100% Paleo. Try any of the nitric oxide boosters. Try any of the adaptogens listed. Almost all the Folklore adaptogens actually seem to work IMHO. My favorite recent supplement is DIM. Just scored some from Purebulk.! Took too much, (100 grams )too late at night( 6pm.) Literally , up "so to speak" three times between 12:30 and 4:00 am. Not ideal! The wife was asleep and didn't want to wake her. Probably should have in hindsight. Also check out Montak Chia's SECRETS OF TOAIST LOVE. Retaining male sexual fluids and recycling sexual energy with your lover is worth at least a few hundred mgs. of DIM !

And yes Dinis, these suggestion will work for both men and women. – shah78 Nov 1 2011 at 21:09

I thought I would add a query to this extensive list of sexual aids (lower case aids): condom friendly natural lubricant anyone? Coconut oil makes me pregnancy-worried..

Durex Avanti condoms are not made from latex, and can be used with oil based lubricants. My partner and I used them before his snipping, and we much preferred them. – Tikivana Apr 15 2012 at 1:09
Really?! Man, we totally use that kind, I didn't know that they could be used with oil based lubricants! Time to search the recycling for the box... – JeJ Apr 15 2012 at 1:16
