I am a crockpotting nut. Particularly bones and pig skin and I usually crockpot over night. I am moving into a shared basement apartment and even though I love the smell, I can't imagine my roommates will enjoy it.

Any suggestions on how to rid the smell? or a workaround?

I don't think I could go a few days without slow cooking.

I do a lot of cooking outdoors in the summertime to keep the air conditioner from working harder than necessary. My steamer, dehydrator, toaster oven and crock pot have all been carried outside a time or two, especially when entertaining and I'm trying to keep the house comfortable. My yard is fenced so dogs haven't infiltrated. – Laura Aug 29 at 0:37

You might start out with more traditional slow cooked foods that they would enjoy as well, like a roast with potatoes (you can just eat the meat if you want) or chicken in wing sauce. They wont mind the smell of foods that they will later get to eat. Once you get them hooked, they'll be less likely to complain when you start adding in the more exotic items. Who knows, you may convert them! Good luck!

Put it in the garage. This would keep out dogs, racoons and other opportunistic feeders (although maybe not your roommates . . .) and maybe some of the smell.
