So today I picked up some raw milk.. Omg.. All I can is.. ITS FRIGGIN DELICIOUS!!! So creamy and fresh tasting, reminds me of melted vanilla icecream without the added sugar. I got it like a bit over an hour ago and have already chugged a whole gallon. It's so good. I'm craving more, I'm most likely going to pick up 3-4 gallons tomorrow. I've deprived my body of dairy for so long, maybe it needs a missing nutrient or something. It's all I seem to want.

I love raw goat's milk! – April S. Sep 1 at 21:12
In my culture people say that you are not supposed to mix raw milk from one cow with raw milk from another cow (due to different bacteria or something, whatever). I grew up on raw milk, but there are some ancient rules to follow. – VB Sep 1 at 21:15
VB, that's funny. Is it an old wives' tale passed down through the generations or was there an honest problem? – MathGirl72 Sep 1 at 21:41
I don't know. But everybody I know (including my mom, both grandmothers, friends and neighbors never drink "mixed" raw milk from different cows. – VB Sep 1 at 21:44

I grew up drinking an amalgamation of milk from a dozen or so goats, raw. Not sure what the wive's tale protects against. – Matt Sep 1 at 23:10

In my entire adult life, I have never liked milk. Then I bought a quart of raw whole milk, and now knowing what cow's milk is SUPPOSED to taste like, I absolutely love it.

I HATED " normal " grocery store milk.. Ugh, my Dad made me drink is as a child. So gross. Once I drunk this stuff though.. ahh I'm going to be going back for more, ALOT more. – Meatymichael Sep 2 at 4:32

Raw goat's milk is where it's at. I started picking up a half gallon a week at the beginning of the summer, just for fermented dairy and occasional treats. Then I started drinking cafe au laits for breakfast. The situation deteriorated rapidly, and now I have two pygmy goats in my backyard.

I have a problem.

I buy raw milk but almost never drink it fresh. I prefer it fermented...kefir, yogurt, etc.

I wanted to love raw milk so bad - finally had the opportunity to buy some and I didn't like it at all. I tried!

You have to drink it right after the cow has been milked. It should be still warm like her body and smell like a cow. Then it is a completely different experience. It tastes like grass (a little bit). The taste is very unique, it is hard to describe. You probably tried to old one. It does not taste the same. – VB Sep 1 at 22:21
I agree. Mine was refrigerated after bottling but still very fresh. The aftertaste is a bit " grassy " and actually tasted just like the farm smelt. You may think that means it's nasty but it was actually very delicious. I'm getting more tomorrow. It's like super fuel at the gym. – Meatymichael Sep 2 at 4:31
Sometimes if it came from a regular storage vat with a tap at the bottom, it separates and you get raw skim milk--good in its own way, but nothing spectacular. Raw milk should basically taste like good, fresh whole milk. – Ten Bulls Sep 2 at 21:08
