Interesting article by Chris Masterjohn: http://blog.cholesterol-and-health.com/2010/11/sweet-truth-about-liver-and-egg-yolks.html If I am getting this right, he is saying that fatty liver is not directly caused by too much sugar, alcohol, or fat intake but is instead caused by lack of choline which impairs the liver's ability to transfer fat back out of the liver. Without proper transport out, fat accumulates in the liver. Is the reasoning behind this theory sound? If so, seems like a rather easy solution to a very serious problem. (not that sugar and alcohol can't harm you in other ways as well of course..)

It seems sound to me. I think that micronutrients sometimes have much more to do with our health than we like to think so. Of course, a high carb, high fructose diet is also often low in choline and high in PUFA, the deadly combination for the liver. |

Screw apples. Five eggs a day will keep your liver in the fray. |

Also don't forget to eat beef, or at least supplement with some Carnitine. Choline and carnitine are related: http://specificstrength.blogspot.com/2010/12/carnitine-and-choline.html |

Compelling article by Chris Masterjohn but I would still avoid sugar and high fructose corn syrup like they are poison. |

New article on choline: http://chriskresser.com/why-you-should-eat-more-not-less-cholesterol "However, beyond just ‘not avoiding’ high cholesterol foods, there is a significant reason for us to make a special effort to include many high cholesterol foods in our diet. The reason? The much under-appreciated B-vitamin called choline, found primarily in cholesterol-rich foods. If you haven’t heard of choline, or don’t know much about this vital nutrient, you’re not alone. Choline has only been ‘officially’ recognized as an essential nutrient since 1998, when the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine established an Adequate Intake (AI) level of 425 mg per day for women and 550 mg per day for men."
