I wouldn't even describe myself as a cynical person, but at this point, I don't think it's possible to save the medical-pharmaceutical-agricultural food industry complex. I think it would be a waste of time, money and the health of people if we tried to "fix" the Western medical system and implement dietary disease prevention.
There are a lot of stooges out there that would take one look at a FODMAPs diet or auto-immune diets protocol and say "screw that, I'd rather take a pill." Nevermind the fact that it provides temporary and permanent relief to many people, it's much more simple to continue eating a SAD. That being said, it's their right to choose the method of treatment. Some people will go the natural route, some will go the chemical/pharmaceutical route.
I think the best alternative is to create two separate medical industry regulatory agencies - one for mainstream medicine and the other for natural/holistic healing. Health insurance should work for both obviously.
